CM111402special COMMON COUNCIL – CITY OF MUSKEGO APPROVED MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 14, 2002 The meeting was called to order at 5:17 PM by Mayor Slocomb. Also present were Aldermen Petfalski, Patterson, Le Doux, Damaske, Salentine, Madden and Clerk- Treasurer Marenda. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Clerk-Treasurer stated the meeting was noticed in accordance with the open meeting law on 11/13/02. Mayor noted five candidates submitted applications to fill the unexpired term of Alderperson-District 6. Applicants present were Thomas D. Kies, Anthony J. Koscinski, Sr. and Eric G. Schroeder, and applicants to be interviewed by telephone were Michael Bluemel and Allen L. Breitbach. Mayor advised each applicant would be asked a series of questions, and each alderman may ask a follow-up question. He noted this is a public meeting and applicants have a right to be here at all times. However, we are asking that while others are being interviewed, the remaining applicants move to the Mucky Room to wait. Once the interview process is complete, it is anticipated that the members of Council will vote on the successor to Ald. Sanders. Mayor thanked all the applicants for showing an interest and applying for this position. At this time he turned the chair over to Council President Petfalski. Ald. Petfalski informed the candidates that when it comes to voting, if no one has received a majority vote of the Council members present, re-voting will occur until one candidate receives the majority vote. If there is a tie vote, only the top candidates that tied will proceed to the next vote. The Aldermen proceeded first with the interview of Mr. Bluemel by phone, followed by the interview of Mr. Breitbach, also by phone, then in-person interviews with Mr. Kies, Mr. Koscinski and Mr. Schroeder, with each candidate leaving the room during the others’ interviews. Upon completion of the interviews, Clerk-Treasurer Marenda distributed paper ballots. Eric Schroeder received a majority vote on the first ballot to fill the unexpired term of David Sanders. The candidates were thanked for their interest in the position and the City, and those interviewed by phone were called. Clerk-Treasurer Marenda administered the Oath of Office to Eric G. Schroeder as Alderperson of District 6. A ceremonial swearing-in will take place at the Common th Council meeting on November 26. Ald. Petfalski moved to adjourn at 7:01 PM. Ald.
