ccm19931108CITY OF MUSKEGO COMBfON COUNCIL MINUTES OF JOINT MEETING OF COMMON COUNCIL AND MUSKEGO-NORWAY SCHOOL DISTRICT MEETING HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1993 The meeting was called to order at 8:05 P.M. by Mayor De Angelis. Also present were Aldermen Patterson, Taube, Sanders, Misko and Schneider. Alderman Woodard arrived at 9:00 P.M. Mayor De Angelis introduced Board President Linda LeMaster who proceeded to introduce Board Members Bruce Brownell, Charles Damaske, Daniel Kinnick, Linda LeMaster, Jeff Olson, John Rajkovacz and MaryAnn Seibt. Also in attendance were Superintendent Richard Wasson, Jean Henneberry, Charles Brenden and Robert Rammer. Philosophy for the Muskego-Norway Schools Mission Statement District Initiatives for 1993-94 Third Friday Enrollment Report Enrollment Project Information Pupil to Staff Ratios, Revenues and Expenditures Special Education Growth Charts (1973-1992) Performance Assessments Successes in Pupil Services Department Draft of "Stretching the School Calendar" 1992-93 Year End Report - Police Liaison Program 192-93 Annual Report and Supplement Comment/Suggestion Cards Discussion followed on census numbers and how they were obtained as well as how schools were handling additional student numbers. The School Board stated that their present intent is to keep Muskego Elementary School operational for at least three to five years, then purchase land or use the twenty acres of vacant land near the high school to build a new school. Board Member Jeff Olson requested the City to watch multi-family housing closely. The option of dropping the Town of Norway was discussed and it was explained that it was a very difficult process with complicated requirements. are pleased with the program. Mayor DeAngelis suggested that thought be given to possible consolidation of grounds keeping to eliminate duplication and effect savings to both the City and School District. Dr. Wasson inquired as to whether the City would be interested District Office site. Discussion was held on access at Mill Valley School for Senior Citizens' Housing Project. Several options were discussed. Mayor DeAngelis introduced a suggestion of starting a Community Service Program as a requirement for high school graduation whereby students would register time and service to the community where they live. This requirement would make the students more aware of how the community operates and good reviews from the Districts who use this program and that safeguards its citizens. Dr. Wasson stated there have been the School Board should take a serious look at incorporating such a program. Dr. Wasson, on behalf of the School Board, thanked the council for assistance in securing the required building permits for construction of new District Office building, tower and press box. Linda LeMaster presented a suggestion for incorporating Library facilities; merging the City's library with the school library. Ald.
