COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS
Mayor Salentine announced the Finance Committee appointments would
be Alderman Patterson, Alderman Dumke, and Alderman Sanders.
He noted his other appointments would be made at the next Common
Council meeting.
Alderman Patterson questioned the method of appointment to Council
committees. With governmental agencies having the executive,
judicial, and legislative branches, he asked why the executive
branch appoints committee members. He felt aldermen should appoint
the committee members. Alderman Dumke felt there was no reason to
change the procedure that has been in place for many years.
The Mayor stated the City's municipal code states that the Mayor
appoints the committees. Alderman Taube asked how other
communities make their appointments besides through the executive
branch. The Mayor responded that usually the Council president
makes such appointments.
Alderman Taube stated that as long as the committees aren't
appointed this evening, could it be discussed next time. The Mayor
Alderman Taube asked how the other aldermen felt. Alderman Simmons
stated there isn't time; an ordinance change would be required.
responded he felt it could be considered for the future, but not
now. Alderman Dumke stated to stay the same as in years past.
Alderman Simmons moved to adjourn at 7:56 PM. Alderman Sanders
seconded, carried.
Respectfully submitted,
