ccm19670130COMMON COUNCIL CITY OF MUSEEGO MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING HELD JANUARY 30, 1967. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Gottfried at 7:31 P.M. Those present were Aldermen Budish, Joost, Lentini, Linck, Weaver, Wieselmann and Wollman. Also present were Attorney Reilly and Clerk Bette Bowyer. Mayor Gottfried indicated that the meeting was called at the request of the Safety Committee to have the Common Council reconsider Ordinance 858, entitled, An Ordinance Amending Ordinance #55 Entitled, An Ordinance Establishing Personnel and Establishing and Regulating the Salaries and Other Compensations of Elected and Appointed Officers and Employes of the City of Muskego. Alderman Linck moved for the reconsideration of Ordinance 858, As Amended. Seconded by Alderman Joost. Alderman Linck requested that the floor be granted to Mr. Fred Lavey, a member of the Police and Fire Commission. Mr. Lavey explained why the Police and Fire Cormnission had requested that the Public Safety Committee ask for a reconsideration of Ordinance #58, As Amended. He further explained that it was the Commission's feeling that by having a top range figure of $12,000.00 put back into the ordinance that this would attract a larger number of applicants thus giving the Commission the broadest choice possible. More dis- cussion followed regarding the pros and cons of reconsidering Ordinance $158, As Amended. Upon a roll call vote to reconsider Ordinance $158, As Amended, Aldermen Budish, Wieselmann and Wollman voted "no". Alder- men Linck, Lentini and Joost and Weaver voted "aye". The motion to reconsider Ordinance #58, As Amended, carried. Alderman Linck moved to amend Ordinance #58, As Amended, as follows: After the word "police" the following words be inserted, "at a starting salary of $lO,OOO.OO per year with annual merit increases not to ex- ceed $500.00 until a yearly salary of $12,000.00 is reached." Seconded by Alderman Weaver. In answer to a question by Alderman Wieselmann, Mr. Lavey read the 1967 salary range of the chiefs of police of neighboring municipalities. Following discussion.on the merits of amending Ordinance i/58, As Amended, Alderman Wieselman moved to defer action on Ordinance #58, As Amended, until the last day of February urging that his fellow aldermen investi- gate the various police salaries of neighboring municipalities. Seconded by Alderman Wollman. Upon a roll call vote to defer action on Ordinance #58, As Amended, Aldermen Budish, Wieselmann and Wollman voted "aye". Aldermen Linck, Joost, Lentini and Weaver voted "no". The motion to defer action did not carry. Upon a roll call vote to amend Ordinance #58, As Amended, Aldermen Budish, Wieselmann and Wollman voted "no". Aldermen Joost, Lentini, Linck and Weaver voted "aye". The motion to amend Ordinance #58, As Amended, carried. - L ~_ Upon a roll call vote to adopt Ordinance $158, As Amended, Aldermen Budish, Wieselmann and Wollman voted "no". Aldermen Joost, Lentini, Linck and Weaver voted "aye". The motion to adopt Ordinance #58, As Amended, carried. Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried. At the request of the Public Safety Connnittee I am calling a special Council meeting to be held on Monday, January 30, 1967 at 7~30 P.M. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss once again Ordinance #58 which was amended and acted upon at our regular meeting of January 24, 1967. At the suggestion of the Public Safety Committee, I am enclosing a copy of the job description and qualifications as established by the Muskego Police and Fire Commission. They feel that this material will aid you in evaluating Ordinance l/58. It is my understanding that the Public Safety Committee will ask for reconsideration of Ordinance #58 in order that they may provide a salary range of $lO,OOO.OO to $12,000.00 with annual merit increases not to exceed $500.00.
