COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE -Minutes 20111122 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE – CITY OF MUSKEGO (Approved – 12/13/11) MINUTES OF MEETING HELD TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2011 Mayor Chiaverotti called the meeting to order at 6:40 p m. ROLL CALL Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti, Aldermen Snead, Borgman, Werner, Soltysiak, Schaumberg, and Fiedler. Also present Community Development Director Jeff Muenkel and Deputy Clerk Jill Blenski. Alderman Harenda was absent. STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE The meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. NEW BUSINESS 1. Review of City Logo - Mayor Chiaverotti stated that this item was brought forth by Ald. Harenda who is unable attend the meeting. The Mayor felt by the actions of the council in selecting the new gateway signage they also adopted the new logo. The logo can be changed but at a cost. Several of the aldermen expressed the opinion that they are not against the new logo, but feel it “just happened” without their input and they should have been informed prior to the change. Mayor Chiaverotti stated nothing has been done except electronically. Discussion followed as to whether the logo and the signs need to be the same. Ald. Borgman feels the colors and image should be consistent. Ald. Soltysiak and Ald. Werner would like to obtain public input. 2. Discussion on Possible Ordinance to Allow Chickens in Higher Density Residential Areas. Ald. Fiedler had received a few calls from constituents requesting a change in the ordinance to allow the raising of chickens on smaller parcels, which he passed on to the Community Development Department. Community Development Director Muenkel stated his department typically receives 15 or so requests a year to change the ordinance which currently restricts the raising of chickens to a minimum of 2.75 acre parcel before being allowed to raise chickens. They researched this topic with neighboring communities and found that there were no more difficulties in enforcing this ordinance than any others. Many people after realizing the costs in raising chickens tend to give them up. Since there is not a great demand from the community requesting change and concerned over sanitary issues the consensus was to leave the existing ordinance in place. COMMUNICATIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW ADJOURNMENT Ald. Snead moved to adjourn at 7:05 p.m. Seconded by Ald. Fiedler; motion carried. Minutes transcribed by Cindy Schweitzer
