COWM20090210 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE – CITY OF MUSKEGO approved MINUTES OF MEETING HELD TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2009 Mayor Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. and led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Mayor Johnson, Ald. Snead, Borgman, Werner, Schneider, Pavelko (arrived at 6:50 p.m.) and Deputy Clerk Blenski. Ald. Fiedler and Schaefer were absent. STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE Deputy Clerk Blenski stated that the meeting had been noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. APPROVAL OF AGENDA There were no issues with the agenda. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ald. Borgman moved to approve minutes, of the January 13, 2009 meeting. Ald. Schneider seconded; motion carried. NEW BUSINESS 1. Sexual Predator Ordinance. (Mayor) Mayor Johnson reviewed the proposed amendments to the existing ordinance. Reiterated that he would investigate what other communities with lakes have done by sending out an information request to the Police Chiefs and also to the Clerks offices. The only response received was from the City of Pewaukee. Pewaukee does have a sexual predator ordinance; the lake is not covered; only the beaches are. Ald. Schafer requested the issue be deferred, as she could not be present. Ald. Borgman moved to defer. Ald. Snead seconded; motion carried. 2. Review of the letter received from the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce regarding the Mandatory Sick Leave Policy for the City of Milwaukee. (Mayor) The Mayor stated that he did not believe adoption of an ordinance was what should be done, nor would this situation be the proper use of an ordinance. The City could pass a resolution if it wanted to and this would be a proper step to take. Several Aldermen believed that Muskego should wait for the outcome of the City of Milwaukee ordinance that is currently being challenged in court. Ald. Werner’s opinion was that for the potential business owner coming into the City of Muskego, would then know the City’s’ position on this City of Milwaukee Mandated Sick Leave Policy. The final consensus was to wait until the legal issues surrounding this Policy are resolved before Muskego would take any action on this issue. . ADJOURNMENT Ald. Snead moved to adjourn at 6:59 p.m. Seconded by Ald. Borgman, motion carried unanimously. Claire Lederhaus Executive Assistant
