pfcm20060119City of Muskego Police & Fire Commission Meeting January 19,2006 The meeting of the Muskego Police & Fire Commission was held on Thursday, January 19,2006 in the conference room of the City of Muskego Police Department. Commissioner Rammer called the meeting to order at 7:30PM. Pledge of Allegiance Roll call was taken with Commissioners Rammer, Treba, Lehman, Gleason, and Sindic present. Statement of Public Notice was given to the press and posted on Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Commissioner Lehman made a motion to approve the agenda items and Commissioner Gleason seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Commissioner Gleason made a motion to accept the minutes of the October 20, 2005 meeting. Commissioner Lehman seconded and motion carried unanimously. REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT: . A sergeant, who was injured in an on-duty auto accident last year, is considering a disability petition. . Another Sergeant is continuing on light duty and may possibly need more surgery. . A second firm is investigating a fatal accident that occurred early this month on Durham Drive. The District Attorney requested an engineering firm to do another investigation. One of the passengers died and the driver is in a coma at this time. . Officer Steinbergs started work on January 16,2006 and is in the field-training phase. . Officer Natalie Johnston completed the field training and is doing a good job. . At this time the Department has completed the hiring process for officers, and is at full strength. Two recently hired clerk/dispatchers left after a short time. Two new employees have been hired and are doing well and there is one more position yet to fill. OLD BUSINESS: . Recruitment and Hiring Policy & Procedures - the procedures for hiring of officers was discussed. After some discussion it was decided there will be some changes made and it will be brought back to the Commission in April for approval. The Commissioners asked that the eligibility list be put on the agenda for the April meeting for discussion. Muskego Police & Fire Commission Meeting January 19, 2006 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS: . Probationary Period for Promotions - the Chief suggested the Commission consider a one-year probation period for all promotions (except Chief). He indicated it is a common practice in the state to require probationary periods for promotions. Commissioner Lehman made a motion to accept the addition and Commissioner Sindic seconded. Motion carried unanimously. . Chief Johnson announced the promotion of Officer Andy Kraus to the position of Staff Sergeant. Commissioner Lehman made a motion to approve the promotion and Commissioner Treba seconded. Motion carried unanimously. The next meeting of the Muskego Police & Fire Commission will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006. Commissioner Rammer made a motion for adjournment.
