Motion carried unanimously. Chief Johnson reported the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. The 1995 Budget was approved with very minor changes. The Council approved the hiring of two officers in April. The money for these positions has been placed in the contingency fund as he has applied for two officers under the Federal COPS FAST Program. That Grant would award us $15,000 for each officer over a three year period. The Grant recipients will be notified in February. If we don't receive the Grant, the monies will be transferred from the contingency fund. The D.A.R.E. program will be funded by the County this year at $40 per student enrolled in the program. A drug survey is conducted every three years by the schools and the next one will include the students that were enrolled in our first D.A.R.E. program. The Governor supposedly is opening a window in the State Retirement Plan. There is a possibility that two of our officers will be taking advantage of that window and retiring from the Department. The Chief is looking at reorganizing the structure of the Department as he feels this would be the proper time to do so if the two officers retire. OLD BUSINESS: There was none. NEW BUSINESS: The report on the recruitment process was reviewed. Chief Johnson reported that commencing in 1996 an Associate Degree in Police Science will include certification of police officers. Certification will also be included in a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Muskego Police & Fire Commission Minutes January 19, 1995 Page 2 Com.
