pfcm19830421POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MUSKEGO April 21, 1983 The regular quarterly meeting of the Police and Fire Commission of the City of Muskego was held on Thursday, April 21, 1983, in the conference room of the Police Department. The meeting was called to order at 8:02PM by President Horn. Present were President Horn, Secretary Swarthout. Walter Bohrer, Randy Young, and Chief Scholz. Robert Kreuser was absent. The minutes of the special meeting of February 17, 1983 were read. Mr. Bohrer made the motion to approve the minutes as read. Seconded by Mr. Young. Motion carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS : Chief Scholz reported that Motorola is still in the process of installing the communication center. The main radio is in operation, however, problems have arisen with the tape recorder and intercom. Chief Scholz reported that we received 28 applications for police officer that fulfilled the requirements of being a Wisconsin certified police officer and having 60 post-secondary education credits in police science. Twenty of these people took the written test on April 9 administered by the Wisconsin City and County Testing Service. They stated that the scores which ranged from 142 - 171 out of a possi- ble 188, were extremely high. Because the scores were so close the Commission decided to interview all the candidates on Saturday, April 30. The twenty minute interviews will start at 8:OOAM with a two hour lunch break. The oral board will consist of Marsha Swarthout, Randy Young, Muskego Police and Fire Commission Minutes April 21, 1983 Page 2 and Lieutenant Johnson. Richard Horn and Robert Kreuser will also sit on the board if available. Walter Bohrer will be attending the interviews. The composite score will consist of 70% for the oral interview and 30% for the written test. NEW BUSINESS: Election of Officers: For the election of officers, Mr. Horn stepped down as Chairman of the meeting and Mr. Bohrer took over. Mr. Bohrer nominated Mr. Horn for the Presidency. Seconded by Mrs. Swarthout. Mr. Horn nominated Mrs. Swarthout. Seconded by Mr. Young. Mr. Horn moved that nominations be closed. Seconded by Mrs. Swarthout. Motion carried unanimously. Chief Scholz collected and counted the written ballots. The results were 3 votes for Mrs. Swarthout and 1 for Mr. Horn. Marsha Swarthout was elected President. For Vice PresidentISecretary Mr. Horn nominated Mr. Young. Sec- onded by Mrs. Swarthout. Mr. Horn moved that nominations be closed. Seconded by Mr. Young. Motion carried unanimously. Randy Young was elected Vice PresidenttSecretary. Mr. Horn moved that a unanimous ballot be cast for President. Seconded by Mr. Bohrer. Motion carried unanimously. Chief Scholz thanked the outgoing officers for the excellent job they had done. He suggested a press release be made on the election of officers. Schools or Seminars for Commissioners: Chief Scholz suggested that the Commissioners contact the City requesting that they include monies for attending seminars and schools for Commissioners in future City budgets. At least one Commissioner should try to attend these schools. She will request ex- pense reimbursement from the Finance Committee. COMMUNICATIONS : A letter received from Mr. William J. Hayden of W203 S10320 North Shore Drive, bskego, was read. Chief Scholz suggested a letter of acknowledgment be sent to Mr. Hayden and the letter placed on file. The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, 1983. Mr. Young moved that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Mr. Bohrer. Motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 9:12PM. Respectfully submitted, Secretary
