pfcm19810922POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MUSKEGO September 22, 1981 The Police and Fire Commission of the City of Muskego held their meeting on Tuesday, September 22, 1981, in the conference room of the Muskego Police Department. The meeting was called to order by Presi- dent Horn at 8:03PM. Present were President Horn, Marsha Swarthout, Walter Bohrer, Blenda Treba and Chief Scholz. Mr. Moser was absent. The minutes of the April 23. 1981 meeting were read. Mr. bhrer moved that the minutes be approved as read. Seconded by Blenda Treba. Motion carried unanimously. The minutes of the Special Meeting of June 18, 1981 were read. Marsha Swarthout made the motion that the minutes be accepted as read. Seconded by Mr. Bohrer. Motion carried unanimously. A letter of resignation from Commissioner Bernard Lindner was read. The resignation was effective July 1. 1981. The City of Muskego Resolution # 145-81 was read appointing Blenda Treba to fill this va- cancy on the Police and Fire Commission. This appointment expires on May 1, 1983. Mrs. Treba was introduced. OLD BUSINESS: In the grievance regarding additional pay for the mem- bers of Team #5 (the Juvenile Officer and Investigators), Chief Scholz reported that it was decided that these personnel would receive $945 above the top patrolman's salary no matter what salary step they were in prior to being assigned to Team #5. Chief Scholz reported that four new marked squads were ordered on September 9, 1981. They will be Plymouth Gran Furies purchased from Muskego Police & Fire Couonission Minutes September 22, 1981 Page 2 Mayfair Chrysler. Delivery is promised for the first part of December. The delay by the Common Council in purchasing new squads has cost the City approximately twelve or thirteen thousand dollars due to the in- crease in the price of the cars and the additional maintenance costs to keep the 1980 squads operable. Chief Scholz reported that the former cadet, Eric Pedersen, was promoted to telecommunicator effective May 4 and Kenny Putt was hired as the new cadet effective July 13. Chief Scholz reported that the shift hours were changed to llPM - 7AM. 7AM - 3PM and 3PM to 11PM. The work schedule for Team #5 was changed to a 5-2, 5-2 work week with holidays off but at the present time this is being grieved. NEW BUSINESS: Chief Scholz reports that at the present time one tele- couonunicator is on sick leave due to knee surgery and two officers are on "Injured on Duty" leave. They are Sgt. Wolfgram with a knee injury and Officer Markley with an ankle injury. The extending of the eligibility for patrol officers was discussed. hit f4 Mr. Bohrer moved to extend the eligibility list that is due to expire on October 4, 1981 for an additional six months to April 4, 1982. Seconded by Marsha Swarthout. Motion carried unanimously. Chief Scholz reported that in case a vacancy for patrol officer occurs, it is possible that by waiving the eligibility list that the present cadet, Kenny Putt, could be promoted to that position as he does have all the qualifications. It was decided that if a vacancy occurs a special meeting of the Police and Fire Commission should be called to decide on same. Muskego Police & Fire Commission Minutes September 22, 1981 Page 3 CORRESPONDENCE: A letter of complaint against the police department from Nancy Vanderhei was read. A letter is to be sent to her stating the Couunis- sion does not have jurisdiction over the matter. Marsha Swarthout and President Horn reported receiving phone calls from Alderman Ken Steinberg. He was complaining about the amount of fire equipment that the Tess Comers Fire Department sent to a minor grass fire and the cost for same. A letter is to be sent to him advis- ing that the Commission has no jurisdiction over a volunteer fire depart- ment. Tk next regular quarterly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 1982. Marsha Swarthout moved the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Mr. Bohrer. The meeting adjourned at 9:07PM. Respectfully submitted, Secretary
