pfcm19810423POLICE AND FIFE COMMISSION .OF THE .CITY OF MUSKEG0 April 23, 1981 .The Police and Fire Commission of the City of Muskego held .their quarterly meeting on Thursday, April 23, 1981. in the con- ference room of the Muskego Police Departqent. The meeting was called to order at 8:lOPM by President Horn. All members and Chief Scholz were present. The minutes of the meeting of January 22, 1981 were read. Mr. Moser moved that the minutes be approved as read. Seconded by Mr. Lindner. Motion carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS: Chief Scholz reported that the dog cages will not be installed at the police department. The Animal Warden was given the re- sponsibility of holding the dogs. The police officers contract, explained Chief Scholz, is vague in the woriiing granting additional pay to the Juvenile Officer and Investigators. The union has a grievance pending as they feel the pay should be $945 above the top patrolmen's salary no matter how many years of service he has accrued. Chief Scholz interprets it to be $945 above the officer's present salary step and that is how the City is paying it. These positions are not promotions and are not of a permanent nature. Muskego Police and Fire Commission Minutes April 23, 1981 Page 2 Chief Scholz reported that the Common Council voted to delay purchasing new squad cars until additional miles are logged on the present squads. The problem is that the few auto manufacturers making squads produce them only at specific times of the year so we possibly will not be able to get new squads until 1982. Also additional funds not included in the 1981 budget will be needed for maintenance on the present squads. Chief Scholz reported that a traffic survey was conducted at STH 24 and Lannon to ascertain if traffic lights are needed there. It was decided that they are not needed. NEW BUSINESS : Chief Scholz reported that Eunice Merryfield has resigned as a telecomunicator effective May 1. The present cadet, Eric Pedersen, probably will be promoted to fill the telecommunicator's position. That will leave the cadet's position vacant. If the Common Council approves the filling of this position, it is very probablp that the Commissioners will be called upon to assist in that hiring process. The shift hours were changed on a trial basis reported Chief Scholz. At about September 1 they will be evaluated and the per- manent hours established. The present shifts are llPM - 7AM. 7AM - 3PM and 3PM - 11PM. Mr. Lindner moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Mr. Moser. The meeting adjourned at 8:45PM. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 1981. Respectfully submitted, Secretary
