pfcm19800422POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MUSKEG0 April 22, 1980 The Police and Fire Commission of the City of Muskego held their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 1980, in the conference room of the Muskego Police Department. The meeting was called to order at 8:lOPM by President Horn. Present were President Horn, Secretary Swarthout, Mr. Bohrer, Mr. Lindner and Chief Scholz. Mr. Moser was absent. The minutes of the January 29, 1980 meeting were approved as read. OLD BUSINESS: Chief Scholz reported that after the written test for the cadet's position, only one candidate remained. The Chief interviewed and hired him, Eric Pedersen. President Horn questioned that seeing only one candidate remained, whether the position should have been re-advertised. He also questioned whether the Police and Fire Commission should be more involved in hiring a cadet as he has the potential of becoming a police officer. Chief Scholz advised that the cadet's position is a temporary one to be renewed each year by the Common Council. This is also a civilian posi- tion. In the future a letter will be sent to the Commissioners advising them on the hiring of a cadet. There was a discussion on the alternatives to renewing the present eligibility list for police officers which at this time contains three candidates, one of which is presently employed at the Muskego Police De- partment as a Dispatcher (newly titled Telecomunicator) after having been a cadet here for 1% years. Muskego Police and Fire Commission Minutes April 22, 1980 Page 2 Mr. Lindner moved to extend the present eligibility list for police officers for an additional six months until January 1, 1981. Seconded by Mr. Bohrer. A discussion followed. Mr. Lindner rescinded his motion; Mr. Bohrer rescinded the second to that motion. Marsha Swarthout moved to table the question of whether to renew the police officers' eligibility list prior to July 14, 1980. Seconded by Mr. Bohrer. A poll will be conducted, either by phone or special meeting, prior to July 14 on whether to renew the eligibility list as its status might change prior to that date. Mr. Lindner is to contact President Horn on July 10 reference same. Chief Scholz reported that officers did not attend the First Aid Train- ing at W.C.T.I. on March 15 as noted in the minutes from the last meeting. This trainirig will attempt to be re-scheduled in May at an approximate total cost to the City of $80. Mr. Lindner reported receiving complaints from tavern operators that officers are staking out their establishments at closing time. Chief Scholz reported that some owners request that surveillance but if there is a problem they should contact him by phone, mail or in person. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business. Chief Scholz reported that the Police Staff is considering some type of citizen contact, such as tours of our police facility, for Police Week which is the week of May 15. Mr. Lindner moved that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded. Meeting adjourned at 9:26PM. Respectfully submitted, Secretary ADDENDUM: February 1980 Information on Cadet's Position: Four applicants took the written test on February 9, 1980. Two of these candidates were eliminated due to unfavorable background investigations. The thitd candidate possessed an Indiana driver's license, however, he had lived in Wisconsin since August 1979 and had failed to apply for a Wisconsin driver's license during that time. Oral interviews scheduled for February 16, 1980 were can- celled and Chief Scholz interviewed the remaining candidate. This candidate, Eric Pedersen, was hired effective March 17, 1980.
