pfcm19690828CITY OF MUSKEG0 FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSION August 28, 1969 A special meeting of the Fire and Police Conunission for the City of Muskego was called to order by President William Ahrens at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 1969 in the office of the Chief of Police. Lindner, Chief of Police Ervin W Kraus, and Mr Robert Spies of the Wisconsin Present were Mr William Ahrens, Mr Walter Bohrer, Mr Richard Horn, Mr Bernard State Bureau of Personnel. Mr Warren Moser joined the meeting later. Mr Spies was present at the meeting to begin preparations for the patrolman re- cruitment program. Mr Spies presented copies of the latest salary schedules from various municipalities throughout the state to the Comissioners who were given a chance to compare our schedule of $625 to $745 per month with these other departments. Chief Kraus reported that he could recommend that appli- cants with experience be started at the second step which would be $658 per month. The Conrmission decided that the qualifications could be changed to provide for applicants up to 40 years of age with experience. Possession of a driver's license and a good driving record are to be included. A tentative time schedule was set up by the Commission with the assistance of Mr Spies. Advertising will begin on September 7, 8, and 9; deadline for appli- cations will be Octbber 1; applications will be reviewed by the Comission on October 9; written examination will be given on November 1; oral examination will be held on December 5 and 6 and final certification of applicants will be presented to the Conrmission on or before December 15, 1969. Mr Spies requested that the Commission determine the type of test to be given as the written examination. It was decided.that a general intelligence type would be used as department training will provide the technical training for the posi- tion. A copy of the final specifications and the time schedule will be sent to the members of the Conmission. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Mr Lindner reported that he had spoken with the Mayor regarding the elimination of the two sergeants positions and that the Mayor had stated that this was an be re-established upon request of the Chief at the first of the year. oversight on his part and on the part of the Common Council. The resumes of Sergeant Kass, Sergeant Zabel, and Sergeant Scholz were reviewed the eligibility list for the position of lieutenant. After the discussion, Chief and discussed regarding the ranking that these three applicants should have on Kraus was called back into the meeting and it was announced by the Comission with an oral grade of 90, Sergeant Zabel number two with a grade of 87 and that the decision had been made to place Sergeant Kass number one on the list Sergeant Scholz number three with a grade of 85. It was further agreed by the members of the Comission that this eligibility list would stand until such time as it is depleted or a new examination is called for by the Commission. A discussion was held on the date of the next Fire and Police Commission meeting October 9, 1969 at 7:OO p.m. All members and Mr Robert Spies of the State Bureau and it was decided by all members that the next meeting will be held on Thursday, of Personnel will be notified that the purpose of the Ocotber meeting will be to review the applications for the position of patrolman.
