POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION
June 30, 1969
A special meeting of the Police and Fire Comnission for the City of Pll;&fswas
called to order by President William Ahrens on Monday, June 30, 1969/in t e office
of the Chief of Police.
Present were Mr William Ahrens, Mr Walter Bohrer, Mr Richard Horn, Mr Bernard Lindner,
Mr Warren Moser, and Chief of Police Ervin W Kraus.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
Mr Ahrens reported that the Commissioners had met with the Public Safety Committee
of the City of Muskego on May 21, 1969 for the purpose of discussing the problems of
the Muskego Police Department. The major problem facing the department at this time
is the need for a new recruitment program to establish a new eligibility list and
the transfer of the funds necessary to provide for this program. The Public Safety
Committee will submit the proposal to the Finance Committee for their approval. At
this time, the Finance Committee has not taken any action on the proposal.
The officers for the Police and Fire Commission were selected. Mr Moser moved to re-
tain Mr William Ahrens as president of the Commission. Mr Horn seconded the motion.
It was moved and seconded that the nominations be closed. The motion passed and the
nominations were closed. Mr Moser moved that an unanimous ballot be cast for Mr Ahrens
for President of the Commission. Mr Lindner moved that an unanimous ballot be cast
for President. The motion was seconded and an unanimous ballot was cast for Mr Ahrens
for Mr Moser for secretary of the Commission. The motion was seconded and an unanimous
ballot was cast for Mr Warren Moser for Secretary of the Commission.
Mr Ahrens reported that the Cmon Council had approved the creation of two lieutenants
positions for the department. This would mean that, of the three sergeants acting as
Division Commanders, two would be promoted to lieutenants and one would remain a ser-
geant. Chief Kraus requested that the Commission set up an eligibility list for the
position. The eligibility list may be set up from a closed promotional examination.or
from an oral examination. Mr Bohrer reported that, since the Mayor was not present at
the Common Council meeting, there is the possibility that he might veto the proposal or
any one of the alderman might ask for a re-consideration of the proposal at the next
meeting. Mr Horn moved that the matter be tabled until the next meeting of the Com-
mission to be held on July 15, 1969 at 8:OO p.m. at which time it will be known if the
ordinance has been signed and the position definitely set. Mr Lindner seconded the mo-
tion and the motion passed unanimously.
The Commissioners agreed that the regular meetings of the Commission should continue
to be held on the second Thursday of the month.
There being no further business, Mr Lindner moved that the meeting be adjourned. The
meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
Respectfully d*
Warren V Moser
