MINUTES
The March meeting of the members of the Police and Fire Commission was called
to order by President William Ahrens on March 14, 1968 in the office of the
Chief of Police.
All the members of the commission were present with the exception of Mr Fred
Lavey. Chief Ervin W Kraus was also present.
A motion was made and seconded to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the
previous meeting. The motion was passed unanimously.
The main business of the evening was a discussion of the changes made in the police
department Rules and Regulations as suggested by the firm of Hippenmeyer, Fritz,
Reilly, & Arenz, Attorneys.
Chief Kraus drew the attention of the members of the comnission to a change which
was not in the list of suggested revisions. This change occurs in the section
regarding military courtesy and appears on page 23 in paragraph 1.
The commission suggested to Chief Kraus that a change be made in the section titled
"Rules Governing Promotions" page 29 paragraph 1 which would cover the selection
of a candidate from other than the top three on the eligibility list should the
writing to the board.
A motion was made to re-submit~the revised Rules and Regulations to the firm of
Hippenmeyer, Reilly, Fritz, & Arenz with a request that a letter be sent to the
board by the date of the next meeting stating their conclusions as to the legality
of the document. The motion received a second and was passed unanimously.
It was moved and seconded that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried and
the meeting was adjourned.
