PARKS AND RECREATION SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING
CITY OF MUSKEGO
MAY 1, 2001
Subject to Approval at Next Meeting
The shelter design for Manchester Hill Park sub-committee was called to order at 6:00
p.m.
The meeting notice was posted in accordance with the Open Meeting Law on April 26,
2001.
Present: Mr. Jerald Hulbert, Mr. Richard Manchester, and Mr. Craig Anderson (Director
of Parks & Recreation). Excused was Mr. Howard Schneider.
Shelter Design Discussion For Manchester Hill Park
Discussion about shelter size was held and 30ā x 44ā was agreed upon or somewhere
between 1,200 and 1,500 square feet with a poured concrete floor. Location was decided
to be south of the tree line between the pond and the soccer field and across from the
pond light. There is a cutout in the tree line for access to the soccer field from the
proposed shelter. It was decided that some type of building enclosure along the back and
side wall to keep the wind out in the winter time was needed. Some ideas to be looked at
were overhead garage doors, half walls, and a āVā wall. This item will be discussed with
the city engineer. A shingle roof with solid posts was agreed upon.
It was also agreed upon that lights on a timer, electrical outlets, water fountain, and
portable toilets with an enclosure were wanted.
Issues, which need to be addressed, are drainage from the hill, the possibility of hooking
into sewer for possible future bathrooms (sewer lateral before last lift on Parkland Drive),
wind-breaks, and the cost differential between laminated beams and enclosed trusses.
The city engineer will be consulted as well as vendors on some of these issues.
It was decided to give update of meeting to Parks & Recreation Board on Monday, May
14. Hopefully, a final recommendation will be made in June.
The sub-committee adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
