PRB030590minutesMINUTES SUB-COMMITTEE'MEETING OFPARKS AND RECREATION BOARD, CITY OF MUSKEGO MONDAY, MARCH 5, 1990 The meeting was called to order by Jerald Hulbert at 3:45 P.M. PRESENT: Jerald Hulbert, Therese Rilling, Tom Millonzi, Peter Theis (Parks Supervisor), Jackie Schweitzer (Recreation Supervisor) and Holly Henderson (department intern) ABSENT: Ron Stephens (excused) Ball Field Master Schedule The sub-committee reviewed the rough draft of the proposed 1990 master schedule for the ball fields under the City's jurisdiction. Conflicts with the requests as submitted are: Tuesdays: Bluhm II--MHS boys have three night games that could overlap with the Mavericks request for Tuesdays. As the Mavericks are a travelling team, the sub-committee recommended that the Mavericks notify their league not to schedule any home games for them on June 5, 26 and July 3. Thursdays: Bluhm III--Women's league and County Girls team (Flames) both have requested use of this field. The sub-committee recommended that as the Flames is a travelling team, they request their l league to either schedule no home games on Thursdays, or allow the Flames to use Bluhm III on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. Fridays: Bluhm II--MHS boys have home games scheduled for June 8, 22 and July 13th. Again, it was recommended the Mavericks contact their league to not schedule home games for these dates. Discussion on charging Muskego High School for field maintenance, if they require, for their Saturday dates (April 28, May 12, June 9 and 30). Cost would be $18.74/hour, with a minimum of two hours per date. Tom Millonzi moved to approve the rough draft as discussed and recommended, and that the school be assessed for field maintenance for weekend use, if they require maintenance. Therese Rilling seconded. Motion carried. Other ball field requests were discussed as follows: 1. Mavericks request practice time from 7:30-9:00 A.M. at Mill Valley School. Sub-committee recognizes this must be an annual request. If this scheduling becomes a problem for the Parks Department, the parks supervisor has the authority to cancel their use of the fields for this early practice. 2. The Mavericks also requested permission to schedule 6 double time slots for scrimmages with out-of-city teams or whomever, as in previous years. Again, sub-committee recognizes this as an annual request. l Therese Rillingmoyedto approve both requests of the Mavericks, as stipulated. Tom Millonzi seconded. Motion carried. Minutes, Parks & Recreation Board Sub-Committee Meeting, March 5, 1990, page 2 Tournament Requests A conflict exists with the Women's League and Mavericks team for June 23rd for tournaments. They are not using the same fields, but with two tournaments on the same day, both wanting to start early, it is difficult for the Parks Department to have the fields prepared and ready for use on Saturday morning. Sub-committee recommends that the Mavericks tournament begin at 10:00 A.M. instead of the requested 8:00 A.M. and give them until 8:00 P.M. to finish instead of 6:00 P.M. as requested. All other tournament dates were approved (Women's League, Vernon Church League and Mavericks). Therese Rilling moved to approve this recommendation. Tom Millonzi seconded. Motion carried. (Peter Theis left after this portion of the meeting.) Dance/Gymnastic Coordinator/Supervisor Position Jerry Hulbert reviewed with the sub-committee the call he received from Mary Kozlik regarding Tuesday gymnastic classes. Jackie also updated the sub- committee on the status of staffing, parent conversations, etc. The sub- committee felt that as there were only 4 weeks (out of 10) remaining (excluding visitor's day) that classes would not be separated. In reviewing the coordinator/supervisor position,it doesn't seem to be working. Staff have one expectation and Board another. Sub-committee will meet with full Board about this/these positions at March meeting and recoumxnd setting a meeting in April to discuss with current instructor/coordinator/supervisor, Mary Kozlik, the future of the program(s) and her involvement. Adjournment There being no further business, Tom Millonzi moved to adjourn, Therese Rilling seconded. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 P.M. a sjd/3-7-90
