PRB070780minutesMINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING Monday, July 7, 1980 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. PRESENT: Jo Ann Kehl, Richard Manchester, Michael Weed, Carl Wauer, Dick Arrowood, Tom Raimann, and Pete Theis, Parks Supervisor. ABSENT: Karen Wesell The minutes of the previous meetings were approved as mailed. PERSONAL APPEARANCES No personal appearances at this meeting. DEPARTMENT REPORTS Parks Pete Theis reported that the Electric Power Company would not permit horse riding on their right-of-way and this ruling must be enforced by the City. Pete is to write to Alderman Salentine and Joe Smolkowski concerning this issue. The problem of lights burning out at Mill Valley field has been solved. Bids for the fire escape at Jensen were as follows: $687.50 from Milwaukee Fire Escape Company; and $468.00 from Wisconsin Ornamental Ironworks. Michael Weed moved to accept low bid of $468.00 from Wisconsin Ornamental Ironworks, Richard Manchester seconded, and the motion carried. The motor in the garage (shop) door is blown. One bid of $544 was received and Pete is to obtain more bids for comparison. Idle Isle: There is a problem at Idle Isle with the pier being blocked by people fishing from the pier. Michael Weed moved to place a sign stating that there is to be no fishing from the pier while boats are being launched, seconded by Carl Wauer. Motion carried. Pete presented a map showing that 38.8 acres of parkland and 31.2 acres of other areas is presently being cut by the Parks Department. Currently experiencing problems with the Simplicity over heating, but other equipment is working well. Minutes, Parks & Recreation Board Meeting, July 7, 1980 Page 2 DEPARTMENT REPORTS (CONTINUED) Parks (Continued) Heating of the parks garage was discussed; however, there would have to be found scme way of partitioning off the area to be heated. Pete is to obtain bids on lowering ceiling and partitioning off work area. Alderman Knudsen would like the Lions Park building repainted. Recreation Jackie St. Mary attended the convention in Marathon County and this included a tour of the recreation facilities on June 25, 26, and 27. The Grand Opening of the Senior Citizen Center was held on Monday, July 7, with 82 persons at the opening. The improvements to the facility have not been completed yet. The nutrition center started serving meals on July 7. The equipment for the Center consisting of a pool table, tables, chairs, ping-pong table was from Horn Park. As yet, no lease has been received from the School Board. Their attorney is to prepare a lease for our approval. It has been arranged that the seniors will be cleaning the Center. The sink must be put in and the horseshoe pit has to be placed. Parking at the Center will be no problem. On June 25, Joe Beatka resigned as Land 0' Lakes coach. His son John is now in charge of equipment for the team. No real manager has been appointed. Jackie was directed to find list of players and addresses, find minutes of meeting when the Lakes team was limited to residents of Muskego, and league rules on paying players as managers and payment to any manager in rest of teams. Letter of resignation was received from Norm Killion, Varsity Baseball Coach. Letter from School Board concerning varsity and junior varsity baseball and its sanctioning was received and reviewed. Coaching fees of Parkland Conference to be researched by Jackie. Request to use Jensen Center from the Hales Corners-Muskego Newcomers' Club for three days a week for 45 minutes from October to May for aerobic dance sessions. The membership is 75% Muskego residents. Under the present rate scale, the fee would be $30/week. Jackie recommended to make it $lO/week or $40/month. Carl Wauer moved to establish the fee at $5/session, R. Manchester seconded, and the motion carried. MAA (Muskego Athletic Association) insurance through the City: Letter to MAA from Mayor Gottfried. Mike Weed to check with Finance regarding the $500 for policy. No playground trips for the Tot Lot at Horn Field. Programs are running well. soccer: Letter from Ronald F. Auer on agenda for next meeting. Jackie to get opinions from other coaches for next meeting. Pool Schedule: Complaint from one person about no family swim time other than Fridays from 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Minutes, Parks & Recreation Board Meeting, July 7, 1980 Page 3 OLD BUSINESS 1. Schreiber bid opening July 21. 2. Master Plan needed to be reviewed and approved. 3. Move by some persons and possibility of acquiring Dandelion Park was discussed.
