PRB090877minutesI e _ PARKS & RECREATION BOARD - CITY OF MUSKEGO Minutes of meeting September 8, 1977 PRESENT: Mr. Michael Weed Mr. Bruce Engman Mr. Richard Arrowood Director Steve Pischke Mr. Clarence Dahlen Mr. David Schreiber Mr. Tom Raimann The minutes of the August 22, 1977 meeting were approved as mailed. PERSONAL APPEARANCES werezmade by: Charles Damaski appeared requesting that something be done about the Old Muskego Settlement location. He is concerned with the old equipment sitting outside and the pole barn. The Board has referred this situation to the Department's Cunsultant for his review and will notify Mr. Damaske as soon as possible asp to possible suggestions and comments. Frank Waltz appeared on behalf of the Marlan Meadows Development with a concern with the safety and traffic in the park area. He e also questioned whether it is public or private. Board President Dick Arrowood explained what the Board's function was in this matter, and what will happen regarding the Board's recommendations this evening. Tim Ewert Appeared on behalf of the youth football group (the Chargers) presenting a financial problem with their football program. Offici- ating is the most important need. He requested funds for the program from the Board. The Board directed Mr. Ewert to submit a budget request as well as what else he (Ewert) feels is necessary for this program. Mrs. Heckert appeared and is wondering when a reply to her attorney will be sent. Kent Malison appeared with the request for a basketball league with referees. (Jensen and Schmidt Park - total of $32,663.87) Seconded by Dahlen PASSED Dahlen moved to get the three contractors to resubmit the bid on Horn pertaining to the road section only, and have the Director look into additional LAWCON and City Funding if necessary. e Seconded by Weed PASSED UNFINISHED BUSINESS Raimann moved to recommend approval of the Marlan Meadows Park Dedication with an additional 1% acres (lots 19,20,21) requested. Seconded by Weed PASSED Review of Capital Budget - Proposed '78, was reviewed and commented on. The Board moved to table the final review of the proposed '78, '79, '80, until the September 14, 1977 meeting. NEW BUSINESS Operating Budget tabled until September 14, 1977. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Parks Maintenance Pischke reported the loss of one CETA person. The Department cannot function well with only one person; They need another'full-time person. The department is behind schedule because of loss of help and the unusual amount of heavy rain. . , PAGE THREE - Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Recreation Division Pischke reported that there are seventeen nrograms for fall. l- 2- 3- 4- 2: ?- a- 9- lo- ll- 12- 13- 14- 15- 16- 17- Cross'Country Ski Lessons (no cost to&the City, three lessons for $8.00 with equipment) Men's Volleyball Women's Volleyball Couples Volleyball Adult Open Basketball Children's Dance Lessons (New) 18 weeks - $18.00 Swimming Lessons - two new classes Children's Bowling Lessons - at Alpine Lanes Open Swimming Rifle-Club Adult Men's Basketball League Turkey Shoot Santa Calling Ice Skating Boy's Basketball Program Children's Gymnastics Muskego Artist Guild Dahlen moved to approve the program. Seconded by Engman PASSED A good turnout was reported for the past Artist Guild Show. An additional CETA employee has been requested for the Recreation Division for the Winter programs beginning in January. The Board instructed the Director to proceed with the application procedure. The Director also pointed out that the possibilities of receiving interns from the University of Wisconsin - Lacrosse looks very good. A concerned Senior Citizen in Muskego requested a Senior Citizen Program for those individuals who cannot get into the existing programs due to a lack of places and limited numbers.
