PCM19901002aCITY OF MUSKEG0 PLAN COMMISSION MINUTES OF JOINT SCHOOL BOARD, TOWN OF NORWAY AND PLAN COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 2, 1990 Mayor Wayne Salentine called the meeting to order at 7:OO P.M. (Preceded Regular Plan Commission Meeting) PRESENT: Plan Commission Members: Chairman Wayne Salentine, Jerald Hulbert, Ald. Dave Sanders, Darl Honl, Jack Schmidt, Dottie Rector, and'Gerald P. Lee, Director of Planning & Development. Supt. Don Matheson of the Muskego-Norway Schools, as well as Linda Balint, Jeff Olson, Ms:Gosse, District School Sec'y. and other school district representatives Jim Heiden, Barb Drenzek, Jim Sr Linda Lamb of the Citizen Steering Committee for New Schools. Bob Melseck and Jeff Halbeck were the representatives attending. from the Town of Norway. There was one member of the press ABSENT: Edward Raimann, Plan Commissioner. There was a quorum. The meeting was called to give all interested parties the current development plans on an annual basis. Chairman Salentine gave some background regarding FLOW. Mr. Lee gave a detailed explanation area by area listing the number of planned and available housing units. Mr. Lee reported that based on figures through August 1990, the count was 145 single, 11 Matheson complimented Mr. Lee on a very comprehensive report. It duplexes, 3 - 12 families, 1 - 8 family, and 1 - 6 family. Mr. was noted that development in the area south of Big Muskego Lake is not proceeding until the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage Rector, the Comprehensive Plan Committee representative advised District approves an agreement with the base flows. Mrs. that the area planned for the Moreland Road Extension is proposed for commercial and multi-family zoning. Mr. Matheson reported on the potential sites for new schools. He stated Country Meadows and Bay Lane could be expanded or possibly a new building (26 acres); Muskego Elementary is in an area that is restrictive for growth and could lose value; the Mill Valley School site has a chunk of acreage that could be used; Lakeview has the maximum on the site (lowlands); Tess Corners has a should handle the growth for the next 10-12 years. limited area to expand. There was some discussion about the number of school age children new developments. Mr. Matheson said the new program demands at living within the district and the projections per household for the schools has increased the number of teachers needed for special programs -- some legislators want 4 year old or all day 5 year old kindergarten. Plus, some seniors are coming back to finish school. In Windlake where there is K-5, this continued expansion may force 5th grade out of the elementary school. In summary it was the consensus that this discussion will help to determine a pattern for school population. There being no further questions or discussion the meeting ended at 8:OO P.M.
