PLAK COMMISSION
MINUTES OF JOINT MEETING OF SCHOOL BOARD, COMMON COUNCIL
AND PLAN COMMISSION HELD TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1983
Mayor Salentine opened the meeting at 7 00 P.M. and welcomed
Plan Commission members.
all the School Board members, Common Council members and
Mayor Salentine started the discussion by remarking that the
contract with MMSD will affect the school system as well as
the city. He gave a brief description of the boundaries.
Donald Matheson, Superintendent of the Muskego-Norway School
District, said that the schools are full at 5,000, but the
present enrollment is 3,500 He stated that the most recent
developments of Kristin Down and Guernsey Meadows have
brought in only one student for every two homes. He expects
this to be the trend in other developments. He said the
most recent growth had occurred in the Wind Lake area, and
if heavy building resulted once sewers were available, they
would most likely shift classes rather than add new buildings.
Mayor Salentine stated that a request had been made for sewer
service in the southeast corner to be provided through Franklin.
Ray Christenson, President of the Friends of the Library, asked
if the School District had any room for storing library furniture.
Assistant Superintendent Clarence Dahlen stated that there may
be room at Durham Hill if the sale they are planning of old
books and furniture in mid-October is successful. It was also
suggested that the Denoon Senior Citizens building's basement
could be used or that the files and tables could be used tempor-
arily at the high school.
All parties agreed that the cooperation between School Board
and the City was excellent.
Thomas Somodi, School Board president, stated that he was in
favor of sharing use of facilities. He wondered if money
couldn't be saved by sharing such things as lawnP.owers, snow
plowing equipment, etc.
Jackie St. Mary, Recreation Director, complimented the School
District on the splendid cooperation she has received from
all areas and the use of school facilities for various programs.
Mr Matheson reported that he will be meeting with Mr. John
Ingersoll on school usage of Cable TV.
The meeting adjourned at 8 05 P .M
