PRESENT RESTORATION PLAN CAN MEET RESTORATION TO 880' AND THAT THE WAUKESHA COUNTY HIGHWAY COMMISSION REQUESTS 875' AS THE GRADE PLATEAU FOR THE PROPOSED HIGHWAY. THE FOLLOWING COMMUNICATION DATED FEB. 2, 1968, FROM THE WAUKESHA COUNTY HIGHWAY COMMISSION WAS REVIEWED BY MAYOR GOTTFRIED: 11 DEAR MAYOR GOTTFRIED: THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP OF MR. DALE DAWSON'S REQUEST OF THE DIVISION OF HIGHWAY FOR PERMISSION TO EXCAVATE MATERIAL FROM THE PROPOSED HIGHWAY RIGHT OF WAY JUST SOUTH OF TANS DRIVE NEERS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE OF THE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS YOUR PLAN COMMISSION. ON THE SUBJECT PROJECT. WE HAVE CONFERRED WITH OUR ENGI- AND HAVE THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE TO PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED PRINT OF THE PLAN SHEETS IN THE AREA OF THE GRAVEL PIT AND NOTICE THAT THE PRESENT PROPOSED GRADE SHOWN IN BLACK INDICATES A MAXIMUM CUT OF 70 FEET. SUCH CUT WOULD PROVIDE AN ACCEPTABLE GRADELINE AND BE AS LOW AS WE CAN FEASIBLY BE UNDER THE PRESENT SITUATION. AS YOU MAY EXPECT THIS CUT OF 70 FEET RESULTS IN A LARGE AMOUNT OF WASTE MATERIAL ON THE PROJECT AND THE COST FOR REMOVING THIS MATERIAL HAY BE SUBSTANTIAL. IF MR. DAWSON WOULD REMOVE A LARGE AMOUNT OF THE MATERIAL IN THE HIGH BANK BEFORE THE CONSTRUCTION BEGAN ON THIS PROJECT, THEN WE WOULD PROPOSE TO CONSTRUCT THE NEW ROAD TO THE GRADE LINE SHOWN IN RED. THIS GRADE OF THE NEW ROAD WOULD BE MORE COMPATIBLE WITH THE SURROUNDING TERRAIN. REGARDING MR. DAWSON'S REQUEST, WE RECOMMEND YOUR PLAN COMMISSION PERMIT HIM TO REMOVE ANY MATERIAL HE WISHED ABOVE THE GRADE OF THE RED LINE. THE COUNTY WILL THEN DELAY THEIR ACQUIRING THE NEEDED LAND FROM HIM UNTIL THE LATEST PERMITTED TIME BEFORE LETTING THE WORK TO CONTRACT. AT PRESENT, WE ARE PLANNING ON LETTING THIS PROJECT TO CONTRACT IN AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR, HOWEVER, THE EXACT DATE IS CONTINGENT UPON BOTH THE AVAILABILITY OF FEDERAL FUNDS AND THE COMPLETION OF RIGHT OF WAY ACQUISITION. GRAVEL AND OTHER MATERIAL REMOVAL MAY BE PERMITTED UNTIL AUGUST 1, 1968, AND THEREAFTER REMOVAL * OPERATIONS WILL BE SUBJEC:T TO A TEN (10) DAY ORDER FOR DIS- CONTINUANCE. SHOWN ON THE PRELIMINARY PLAT REFLECTED RACINE AvE., IT WAS THE COMMISSION'S DECISION TO TREAT THIS AS A PRELIMINARY SKETCH. MR. CHASE MOVED TO ACCEPT THE PRELIMINARY SKETCH AND THAT THE COMMISSION WILL BE RECEPTIVE TO A PRELIMINARY PLAT AND CERTIFIED SURVEY MAP. MR. AvE., IMMEDIATELY SOUTH OF THE PROPERTY OWNED BY THE MUSKEGO- THIS A.Q1EA, WE WOULD REFER YOU TO PAGE 10 OF THE JUNE, 1962, IN THIS STUDY HE RECOMMENDS MODIFYING THE 2-STATION APPROACH SHOWN ON PAGE 137 OF THE GENERAL PLAN REPORT TO A 4-STATION OR POSSIBLY 5-STATION APPROACH UNDER LONG RANGE DEVELOPMENT. e ONE OF HIS RECOWMENDED LOCATIONS IS NEAR THE INTERSECTION I1 OF CTH “Y” AND PARKER ROAD”. ON THE BASIS OF THIS LONG RANGE APPROACH WE HAVE NO OBJECTION TO SELECTING A SITE IN THIS AREA. SECOND, AS TO THE NEED FOR SUCH A SITE AT THIS TIME, WE ALWAYS FAVOR ADVANCE ACQUISITIONS, THUS REGARDLESS OF THE EXACT TIME THAT A STATION WOULD BE ESTABLISHED, A PURCHASE AT THIS TIME IS ACCEPTABLE. WE WOULD POINT OUT THAT MR. FERGU- SON DID NOT FEEL A THIRD STATION COULD BE EFFECTIVELY ESTA- BLISHED UNTIL POPULATION REACHED ABOUT 20,000. HE ALSO FELT THAT MERGER OF THE TWO SEPARATE FIRE COMPANIES UNDER ONE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT IS NECESSARY TO AVOID OVER DUPLICATION OF EFFORT, AND OTHER PROBLEMS RESULTING FROM LACK OF COORDINATION. IF THERE IS ANY PLAN TO ACTUALLY DEVELOP THIS SITE WITHIN THE NEXT TWO OR THREE YEARS, THIS SUBJECT OF ACTUAL NEED WILL HAVE TO BE RE-EXAMINED.
