Department of Housing and Urban Development has 00tifi.d Commission that, pursuant to Section 204 of the Demonstration Cities and : Metropolitan Development Act of 1966, it is charging this Commission with the review of applications for federal financial assistance where such does not ensure allocation of federal funds to the applicant. Region. Review of any project by this agency will be entirely advisory and applications are submitted by units of government within this seven-county The federal financial assistance projects requiring review under the new federal legislation include: open space land, hospitals, airports, libraries, water supply and distribution facilities, sewerage and waste treatment facilities, highways, mass transportation facilities, and water development and land conservation projects. The expressed rationale of Section 204 of the Act is to ensure more orderly and economical growth within rapidly urbanizing Regions. between the local units of government within the Region and this Commission, it is not anticipated that this federal review requirement will create any problems for either the local units of government or the Commission. Indeed, this Commission has for a number of years reviewed applications by local units of government for federal grants in support of the purchase of park and open space lands and for the construction of sewerage and water supply facilities. By virtue of the splendid cooperation and understanding that has existed In spite of the greatly increased workload which the expansion of the federal review requirements by the Congress has placed upon this Commission, we hope to be able to provide the same expeditious and thorough review of applications that has been afforded in the past.
