PUBLIC APPEARANCE
REPORT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Rens advised the commissioners on the accreditation process and how smooth it went.
The WILEAG Board will receive a report on the three day process and vote at the November or
December meeting if we will be re-accredited.
Officer Fregoso started last week and is in field training. The department also has two others
in field training and three other officers recently came off of probation.
The department is still down one officer and is hoping to get approved in the budget to hire two
more in 2018. If approved the two extra spots will be designated for a dayshift position and
another detective position.
A new dispatcher started on 09/22/17.
The Christmas Parade is scheduled for 11/18/17.
The Panasonic body cameras that the department tried were not liked by the officers, as they
were too big. The mounting mechanism was not very strong and the cameras were not held in
place very well. There are other vendors who will be coming in to demonstrate their product
and the finance director advised the purchase could be held off until 2018 if necessary.
The Citizen's Academy Alumni Association raised half of the money for the camera for Sirius,
and InPro Corporation donated the other half, so Sirius will have his own body camera.
The new city hall building is taking shape and bids for the police department will be taken in
January. The police department is hoping to be done 18 months after ground breaking.
