PUBLIC APPEARANCE
REPORT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Rens advised that the department’s new K9, Obi, has been certified and working on the
road as of this week. Officer Slamka and Obi attended training for 5 weeks and are both very
eager to get out and do their job. Chief Rens advised that because the K9 squad is not
finished yet, Officer Diedrich and Sirius will be on late shift and Officer Slamka and Obi will be
on early shift so they can share a squad. Once the squad is ready, they will stay on those
nd
shifts as part of manpower, and the department will have a K9 scheduled every day on 2 or
rd
3 shift.
Chief Rens advised that our open house was last week and approximately 200 people
attended. The citizens were impressed by the building and very supportive of the opportunity it
gives us to grow as a department. For the most part everything is complete, except a few
minor details. Chief advised that the old building is pretty much empty and is being used for
rd
3 quarter training.
The department’s newest Officer, Sidney Temple, started this week, he is currently on dayshift
FTO and came to our department from the Kenosha Police Department.
Officer Speich is off FTO and on his own on early shift. Officer Weinkauf completes his FTO
th
tomorrow and starts dayshift on the 19 , on his own.
The department held testing and interviews for the new dispatcher position. The background
investigation is about to begin on the top candidate, and we are hoping for her to start in
November.
Chief advised the new Ford Explorers seem to be well liked by the officers and they will slowly
be phased into fleet and the Tahoes will be phased out.
There was a brief discussion on heroin and methamphetamine use in Muskego and the use of
vaping devices.
The police cadets were involved in a National Pistol Championship in Johnston, Iowa and did
well. Commissioner Kuspa advised he is was present, as an advisor with Community
Resource Officer Jeff Sartorius, for the cadets and was extremely impressed. Two of our
stnd
cadets took 1 and 2 place overall. Commissioner Kuspa said the cadets did an amazing job,
and even if all of them could not attend the event, they trained as a team and he was very
proud. The commissioners requested the cadets come to the next meeting to be introduced to
the commission and share what they do in the cadet program.
