PUBLIC APPEARANCE
REPORT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Rens updated the commission on staffing. We are currently at full staff with two officers in
the FTO program and two people in the academy. Graduation for the academy is 05/10/18.
The formal swearing in will maybe take place at the department awards ceremony on 05/15/18.
Next week the Chief will be posting for the SRO position as Officer Cortese will be coming out
of the school. They are hoping to have interviews the week of 05/15/18, so the new SRO can
be in position for June.
Officer Johnston was appointed to Detective and has been filling in when time/staffing allow.
She should hopefully be dedicated full time to the bureau in June. The detective bureau has
been extremely busy already this year.
Commissioner Kuspa asked the Chief if he plans on asking for more officers based on the
growth of the City. The Chief agreed that the two more they were given this year will help and
yes he will be asking for more in the future.
The Chief advised that the department went with the VieVu cameras and they came in last
week. They will be distributed and put into operation in the near future.
The transport van and chair are both in. The van will be going in for detailing soon and training
on the use of the chair will take place in the next few weeks.
The department annual awards ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
The City will be accepting bids for the new police department. We are hoping to be in the new
