PUBLIC APPEARANCE
REPORT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Rens advised that Officer Pipia resigned to take a position at the City of Waukesha and
Officer Strandt resigned as of 01/20/19, and will be taking a position at the City of Two Rivers.
We are therefore down 2 officers and received 52 applications that were due on 12/31/18.
Applications were being accepted to replace Officer Pipia, so we will now be looking at hiring
two from this group. Agility/written testing will take place on 02/09/19.
Captain Simuncak is currently doing a background on a new dispatcher who will hopefully be
nd
starting within the next few weeks. A 2 dispatcher position was approved for 07/01/19, and
there is an applicant whose background will be started to fill that position come July.
The K9 board advised they have raised enough money for another K9, however, the
department is still in need of money for the squad/equipment for the dog. Commissioner
Kuspa advised that the Lions Club will most likely be making a donation within the near future.
After a short discussion, it was talked about approaching businesses in the community to see if
they would be willing to donate or fund the squad, as InPro has done with the first one.
The officers have been using the body cameras and they have been doing well.
Officers have stepped up speed enforcement around the city after receiving numerous
complaints of speeding vehicles. The area of Woods Road and Racine Avenue had become a
topic of issue, however after reviewing data from speed signs and past reports, there is no
supporting data to show the intersection is a problem.
The digital radio cut over has taken place without incident. The fire department is still working
on some issues with the VHF patch, however that should be taken care of shortly.
