REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Officer Majors will be graduating from the recruit academy tomorrow and will be starting her
nd
FTO training on Monday, April 22, 2013.
Officer Petz is doing well during his field training period.
rd
Jeff Kreft is a newly hired officer and will start Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
Chief Moser stated there are 6 sworn personnel who are close to retirement. The hiring process
will begin in September to have candidates ready when these retirements occur.
Chief explained 2 officers have been disciplined for failure to show for training and were given a
1 day suspension each.
CRO Shaw and Detective Diedrich have held 2 drug awareness programs this year. Both
programs were well attended and they are in the process of planning additional meetings.
Chief reported drug searches were held recently: one in the parking lot of the high school and
the others inside the two middle schools. Drug sniffing dogs were used leading to the arrest of 3
students. A discussion was held on the possibility of the department obtaining and training a
dog.
The department’s SWAT team has joined a countywide unit called the Suburban Critical Incident
Team (CIT).
The department has been doing alcohol compliance checks and the most recent one checked 15
establishments resulting in two establishments being cited. These compliance checks are an
ongoing effort.
Chief Moser reported on a recent supreme court decision that will affect all departments
nd
immediately. Any OWI arrest from the 2 offense and upwards will require a warrant for a
forced blood draw. In the past, if an arrestee refused to have his blood drawn they would be
forced. Now if someone refuses, a warrant will need to be obtained before the blood can be
drawn. This will result in lower blood alcohol concentrations than those that were obtained at
the time of the arrest.
