Review of 2013 Fireworks SeasonReview of 2013 Fireworks Season
With the Fourth of July season coming to a close it was felt that a review of complaints / issues related
to fireworks was appropriate.
In total there were 21 documented fireworks-related, complaints summarized below. It should be noted
that the vast majority of complaints were by anonymous complainants. There were a number of
additional complaints directed towards the Alderman and Mayor but not all of these were formally
communicated to the Police Department. The table represents only those documented, formal,
complaints.
Type of Complaint Number
No Permit, subject advised 5
No Locate 9
Subject had permit, no problems observed 5
Fireworks debris, no subject identified 2
Total 21
This table suggests that most complaints involve either non-permitted fireworks or those that, by the
time the police officers arrived were gone. This suggests that there is lack evidence that those residents
with fireworks permits are operating outside of the guidelines. The Chair is not aware of any reported
fire-related incidents.
In total, there were 101 fireworks permits issued for the period between 7/1/13 and 7/7/13.
