PUBLIC SAFETY MEETING Minutes - 5/10/2018 CITY OF MUSKEGO PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES May 10, 2018 6:00 PM Muskego City Hall, W182 S8200 Racine Avenue CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Alderman Kubacki at 6:00PM. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Aldermen Kubacki, Hammel, Citizen Representatives Kuwitzky and Greenlees, along with Police Captain Constantineau and Fire Chief Rukavina were in attendance. Aldermen Madden was also in attendance. Alderman Wolfe was excused. STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE The meeting was posted on May 8, 2018. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes from March 8, 2018 Meeting Citizen Representative Kuwitzky made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 8, 2018 meeting. Citizen Representative Greenlees seconded. Motion passed, 4 in favor. PUBLIC APPEARANCE Ron Daliege, W192 S6666 Hillendale Drive was in attendance and will speak regarding the Speed on Hillendale Drive. UPDATES FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT Captain Constantineau advised that Chief Rens was not in attendance of the meeting, as he was attending the academy graduation of our two newest officers, Officer Daniel Gaenslen and Officer Chelsea Shockley. Shockley will start the FTO program on Monday, 05/14/18 and Gaenslen was called up for military duty for four months. Officer Strandt will be off field training on the 14th and Officer Robinson is set to be done with field training in June. Officer Natalie Johnston was promoted to Detective and will be moving the bureau in early June. Officer Dylan Lange was promoted to School Resource Officer and once the contract is approved, he will be placed at the new middle school. Officer Erin Cortese will return to patrol. Captain Constantineau advised the new building was approved. UPDATES FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Chief Rukavina advised they have had quite a few grass fires and a barn fire recently. He advised they had 15-20 units from outside departments and used approximately 56,000 gallons of water. There were no injuries and only property loss. OLD BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS Speed on Hillendale Drive Ron Daliege who is a resident on Hillendale Drive near Tans Drive advised that last year his mailbox was struck and a neighbor's dog was struck as well. He advised he spoke with several neighbors and has signatures from them supporting a speed limit decrease on Hillendale Drive. Many of the residents are concerned that the speed limit is still 35mph when most of the side streets around it are 25mph. Captain Constantineau advised the department has a new speed sign that will not show people their speed and allow them to slow down for the "study". He advised the sign will be placed and once they receive the data, a plan will be set in place. He asked that the item be deferred until the next meeting. Citizen Representative Kuwitzky made a motion to defer until the next meeting. Alderman Hammel seconded. Motion passed, 4 in favor. Parking on Lions Park for Pickleball Captain Constantineau advised that Chief Rens reported they were having problems with parking on Lions Park Drive for the pickel ball league. Parking permission has been temporarily adjusted to determine if this configuration will solve the parking problem. Captain Constantineau requested the item be deferred until the next meeting to see if this resolution has worked. Citizen Representative Kuwitzky requested the matter be deferred until the next meeting. Alderman Hammel seconded. Motion passed, 4 in favor. Stop Sign on Westfield and Quietwood Captain Constantineau advised a temporary stop sign had been placed on Westfield Way at Quietwood Drive. The request is to make that stop sign permanent. Alderman Hammel made a motion to erect a permanent stop sign at that location. Citizen Representative Kuwitzky seconded. Motion passed, 4 in favor. Stop Sign on Honeysuckle and Princeton Captain Constantineau advised a temporary stop sign had been placed on Honeysuckle Drive at Princeton Drive. The request is to make that stop sign permanent. Alderman Hammel made a motion to erect a permanent stop sign at that location. Citizen Representative Kuwitzky seconded. Motion passed, 4 in favor. COMMUNICATIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW ADJOURNMENT Citizen Representative Kuwitzky made a motion to adjourn. Alderman Hammel seconded. Motion passed, 5 in favor. The meeting adjourned at 6:27PM.
