TCVFD - Rescue Agreement
Chief Wojnowski presented the committee with a capital budget request for defibrillators that
are placed in the police squads to assist first responders at rescue calls. The request was for
14 defibrillators at a cost of $21,000.00. Mayor Chiaverotti advised that the rescue contract
was self-funded by the fire department as they do their own billing and the City will not pay for
the defibrillators. The Mayor suggested the fire department contact the billing company to
raise their fees to accommodate the need for the defibrillators. Jeff Verburgt explained that
75% of their rescue patients are on Medicare or Medicade and even if they raise prices, they
are only entitled to so much money per call. After a brief discussion, the committee felt the
defibrillators are a necessity and the service to the community should not be compromised.
Alderman Wolfe made a motion to amend the fire agreement to include the $21,000.00 in the
fire capital budget for the defibrillators and forward this recommendation to Common Council.
The fire Capital Budget for 2016 will include the $21,000.00 for a total of $96,000.00 instead of
$77,000.00 was presented earlier. Representative Kuwitkzy seconded, the motion passed
