PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JANUARY 4, 1978
The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Dumke. Also
present were Committee Member Tomczyk, Supt. Bertram, Mr. Don Mil
Mr. Roger Kostello and Ald. and Mrs. Pienkos.

Mr. Miller presented a preliminary sketch of an 11 parcel division
of a parcel of land on Janesville Road directly across from the Clark
station. He indicated that the division had received preliminary
approval by the Plan Commission and requested that he be permitted
to construct a 50' wide road rather than the usual 60' because the
road is relatively short and dead ends on his property. He also
discussed with the committee whether or not they would require a
landscaped area in the middle of the cul de sac. Ald. Dumke moved to
approve the proposed 50' wide road. Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk, motion
carried. After discussing the matter with Supt. Bertram it was the
decision of the committee not to require landscaping in the center of the cul de sacs because of the difficulties encountered in street
cleaning, snow removal, etc;
supt. Bertram discussed the proposed ~Guernsey Meadows .#l-project -with
the-:committee.: He reviewed the' recommendations of the city's consulting
engineers that the culverts at Edith and Ida Cqurts be increased from
15" to 18", that a storm sewer be installed between Lots 93 and 94
and that the intersection of Daisy Drive with the future parkway be
redesigned to facilitate future construction. Supt. Bertram also
recommended that the proposed landscaping within the cul de sacs be
eliminated. Ald. Tomczyk moved to accept the recommendations from the
consulting engineers and Supt.~.Bertram.- Seconded by 'Aid- Dumke, motion
carried.
Ald. Ford requested that the-Public Works Committee re-affirm in their
minutes their intent to pave the end of Silver Drive. He indicated
it was the intent to have .the- work~done -in 197.7 but since it was not
accomplished he wished to be assured that it would be completed in
the spring of 1978. Ald. Dumke moved to re-affirm their intent to
pave the end of Silver Drive in 1978. Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk.
Motion carried.
The committee discussed some of the problems that have arisen as a
result of residents pushing snow from their private driveways onto
roads and streets. supt. Bertram requested that the Public Works
Committee recommend to Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee an ordinance
prohibiting such practice.
Mr. Roger, Kastello appeared at the meeting to present a road plan for
his proposed development, Janesville Court. Ald. Dumke moved to
recommend approval of the presented plan with the exception of the plantin~g area. Seconded ,by -Aid. Tomczyk, motion, ~carried--.
Ald Pienkos appeared at the-meeting to present a problemone~ of his constituents has on Tess Corners Drive while trying to make a curve
on Tess Corners Drive south of S.T.H. 24. supt. Bertram advised htat he would recommend improvement of the roadside ditch and possibly
the widening of -Ihe shoulder in that area. He, further advised that he would obtain costs of the improvement and report back at a future
meeting.
The committee discussed the proposed construction of de-acceleration
lanes on Racine Avenue at the entrance to city and the Police Department parking area. Ald. Dumke suggested that the matter be deferred for further study and possibly be discussed at the next meeting.
Supt. Bertram suggested that the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee ~study the possibility of amending the culvert ordinance to include
that private concrete driveways not extend past the culvert.
Ald.,,Tomczyk moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Dumke. ~ Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:37 P.M.
