MINUTES OF MEETING HELD SEPTEMBER 8, 1977
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Schaumberg at 8:00 P.M.
Also present were Committee Member Tomczyk, Hayor Gottfried, Supt. Bertram, Ald. Wallner, Mr. Robe:rt Wollman, Mr. Adrian Schmidt, Mr.
Richard Jahnke and Mrs. Thomas Mertins.
Ald. Schaumberg advised the committee that as a result of a review of the drainage problem on the Robert Wollman property he indicated
there is sufficient fall to Durham Drive to permit the installation of an 8" field tile. He also indicated that the city would use the $1500.00 provided by Rite Realty to do the work. Mayor Gottfried was
directed to determine from the City Attorney whether or not the
utility easement could also be used for storm drainage purposes.
Mr. Richard Jahnke, representing Adrian Schmidt, appeared to present
road and sewer plans for Mr. Schmidt's proposed minor subdivision.
The committee advised Mr. Schmidt that the plans would have to be
reviewed by the city engineers and that a financial commitment from a reliable bank or savings & loan in the amount of $30,000.00 would
be required to cover the proposed improvements. Ald. Schaumberg
moved to approve the proposed plans subject to the approval of the
city's consulting engineers. Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk, motion carried.
The committee agreed that no further action would be taken on the
proposed reconstruction of Martin Drive until assurances have been received from the State that they will participate in the project.
Mrs. Thomas Mertins, Velva Dr., appeared at the meeting to discuss
the road, dust, etc. problem in the Bay Lawn Subdivision. Chairman
Schaumberg advised her of the problems that must still be resolved
before the sewers will be approved by the Milwaukee !,letropolitan
Sewage Commission. Because of the delay that has been encountered the committee agreed to send a letter to the residents of Bay Lawn
and Freedom Acres Subdivisions advising them of the status of the
sewer project.
The committee discussed the proposed cleaning of the Bass Bay channel
and directed Supt. Bertram to discuss with Mr. hlartin Ludwig the
possibility of obtaining a temporary easemen. which would be needed
in order to complete the project.
supt. Bertram advised the committee that the road problems on Durham Dr. and Lannon Dr. due to telephone construcLion either have been or
will be taken care of shortly.
Mr. Ray Gray, representing Guernsey Meadows, appeared at the meeting
to report that the final asphalt lift will be placed on the roads
within the next two weeks. The committee advised Mr. Gray that the following work needed to be completed:

The asphalt walks to park and pumphouses have to be taken care of.
Ditches adjacent to Vine St. need to be re-seeded.
Pathways to fire hydrants should be maintsinetl better.
Cul de sac at the end of Carolyn Ct. should blend into road better.
Water standing in ditch on northeast ditch of lI;tisy & Linda Dr.
Outlot near lift station should be graded, seeded and landscaped.
Also, shrubbery should be planted around lift station.
All shutoff boxes should be inspected, lopaired and adjusted. Storm sewer manhole on corner of Erin & Vine Streets should be raised
Storm sewer should be adjusted between hlattsolls S: Dietzlers
properties. 10. Final lift of asphalt should be laid.
Mr. Gray advised the committee that several of the above items have
already been taken care of and the balance should be completed during

supt. Bertram advised the committee that he plans .to place a mat of
asphalt on Tess Corners Dr. from S.T.H. 24 to College Ave. Ald.
Schaumberg moved to approve the project, seconded by Ald. Tomczyk,
motion carried.
a Mayor Gottfried advised the committee that an additional $400.00
will be needed for the S.T.H. 24 reconstruction project in order
that a storm drainage problem in the area can be solved. Ald.
Schaumberg moved to recommend ,the Common Council approve of the
additional expenditures subjec.t to the understanding that the city
will receive a 20' permanent easement along the west side of the
Elwyn Yanney property Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk, motion carried.
supt. Bertram advised the committee that he has an opportunity to
purchase some equipment badly needed by the Public Works Department
in the amount of $2,280.00. Ald. Tomczyk moved to have Supt. Bertram purchase said equipment. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried.
supt. Bertram presented his proposed budget for 1978 to the committee.
Ald. Schaumberg moved to recommend that the proposed budget be
approved. Seconded by Aid. Tomczyk, motion carried.
supt. Bertram advised that he is requesting two additional men in
0 1978. Following a lengthy discussion the committee advised they would review the matter further.
One application for employment was received and placed on file.
Communication from City of New Berlin was received and placed on
file.
Mayor Gottfried brought to the attention of the committee that Supt.
Bertram has 80 hours of vacation due him for the year 1975 and 88 hours due him for the year 1976 The committee agreed that in spite
of the policy which encourages employees to take their vaction during
the vacation year Mr. Bertram should not lose the vacation due him. It was suggested that he might wish to receive payment for the vacation rather than taking the days off. He will advise the
committee of his decision in the near future
Ald. Tomczyk moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald Schaumberg, motion carried The meeting adjourned at 9 58 P M.
