MINUTES OF MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 7, 1973
l Chairman DeBack called the meeting to order at 8:15 P.M. Also present
were Aldermen Ford, Schaumberg, Knudsen and Dumke, Mayor Gottfried and
Supt. Bertram.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Yahr appeared to request that an underground drainage
pipe be installed from Bay Court through their property to Little Muskego
Lake rather than an open swale. Supt. Bertram indicated that the material
* cost would be approximately $536.00. The committee explained that under
our present policy the city will install such a pipe if the property
owners will pay for the materials. Mr. Yahr decided to discuss this offer
with his neighbors and report back to the committee.
Ald. Ford moved to recormnend that the Common Council indicate its
willingness to enter into an agreement with the Muskego Norway School
District whereby the city would assume ownership and maintenance of
Bay Lane Road. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried.
Supt. Bertram agreed to prepare a list of areas where the Wisconsin Gas
Company has not done adequate restoration of "open cuts" or ditch lines.
The matter will be reviewed at our next meeting.
Supt. Bertram requested that the committee look at a steep driveway
0 problem at the Pluer residence, S69 W18005 Muskego Drive, which has
become worse as a result of the asphalting of Muskego Drive.
The committee agreed that asphalt ditch inverts do not apuear to be
holding up and that Supt. Bertram should experiment with concrete
inverts this apring and summer to determine reliability and that
Sunset Drive was chosen as the initial test site.
Supt. Bertram reported that St. Paul's Church would like a drainage
pipe installed as soon as possible this spring along the cemetery. Mr.
Bertram will check to see if this is feasible.
Supt. Bertram reported that Ryan Construction Company has requested
that the city maintain Tess Corners Drive between the bridge and
Sherwood Circle for the duration of the winter and to bill Ryan
Construction for the expense.
Upon Supt. Bertram's suggestion the committee authorized the installation
of a larger culvert under Bay Lane Place.
The committee decided not to participate in the Federal Uniform Sign

Program because the cost of the "red tape" appeared to be greater
than the benefits.
Supt. Bertram has reported that the state has complained about the
placement of the "Welcome to Muskego" signs on Racine Avenue.
The committee approved a request by the DNR to allow a group of students
to inspect the sewage treatment lagoons on April 3rd.
l Supt. Bertram suggested that the speed limits along Durham Drive be
made more uniform. The matter was referred to the Safety Committee.
A discussion was held regarding the need for some sort of warning
structure to warn people of open water created by the intake pipe for
the new dam on Little Muskego Lake. Committee members are to bring
suggestions to the next meeting.
Ald. Ron Ford, on behalf of the Park & Recreation Board, requested the
assistance of Supt. Bertram for solving various drainage problems at
Jensen Park, Pearl Drive Park, Emerald Drive boat launching site and
Diamond Drive Park. Supt. Bertram was also requested to provide costs
for resurfacing the tennis courts at Jensen Park.
Ald. Schaumberg moved to grant a 180 day extension to the general
contractor and sub-contractors for the new city garage.
The committee authorized Supt.

Ald. Schaumberg reported a drainage problem complaint by Walter Chmiel.
Ald. Schaumberg also reported that Mr. at the corner of Gaulke
Dr. and Tess Corners Drive has requested gravel for his driveway which
has sunk because of sewer construction.
Ald. DeBack requested that Supt. Bertram help solve a drainage problem
in the area of the culvert draining Lake Denoon to the east.
After some discussion the committee agreed with the Finance Committee's
recommendation to abolish the position of Supt. of Highways and to
create the position of Public Works Superintendent.
Correspondence was reviewed and placed on file.
Ald. Ford moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 11:35 P.M.
