Public Works Committee - MINUTES - 6/15/2009 CITY OF MUSKEGO Approved PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MONDAY JUNE 15, 2009 Alderman Snead called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. with Ald. Schaumberg present along with City Engineer David Simpson and Superintendent Wayne Delikat. Ald. Schneider was absent. Alderman Snead led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Laws on June 11, 2009. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MAY 18, 2009 Ald. Schaumberg moved to approve the minutes of May 18, 2009. Seconded by Ald. Snead. Motion carried 2-0. CITY ENGINEER/PUBLIC WORKS SUPT. REPORT Superintendent Delikat informed the Committee that they are doing some ditching and installing underdrains and will start work on the pond on Kelsey. They are also starting on the Herdamann property. STATUS OF PROJECTS Janesville Road Phase II – City Engineer Simpson informed the Committee that the 60% plans from the County have not been received yet. Three houses along Janesville are scheduled to be razed next week. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Discus drainage problem from Union Church Drive to Big Muskego Lake and review consultant proposals – City Engineer Simpson informed the Committee that the City has received many complaints about increased flooding in this area. He has obtained scopes and quotes from Bonestroo and Ruekert & Mielke for completing preliminary assessments of the problem and beginning working toward a solution. City Engineer Simpson stated that the scope of work proposed by R&M is best suited for analyzing the problem. He recommends approval for a contract for Geomorphic and Drainage Study for an unnamed tributary to Big Muskego Lake from Union Church Road by Ruekert & Mielke for a cost of $22,475.00. Ald. Schaumberg moved to approve the recommendation. Seconded by Ald. Snead. Motion carried 2-0. Discuss drainage problem on Woodland Place and Racine Avenue and review consultant proposals – Superintendent Delikat informed the Committee Woodland Place at the intersection with Racine Avenue has been a safety issue and created drainage problems. The ditches in this area become overwhelmed very easily and storm water causes damage to adjacent private Public Works Committee Page 2 June 15, 2009 properties. City Engineer Simpson obtained design quotes from RA Smith National and Ruekert & Mielke for the survey and design of an urban section (curb & gutter) roadway. The price to complete the work by R&M is proposed at $7,315.00 plus a possible additional $1,200.00 should a retaining wall design be needed. RA Smith proposed to complete the work for $22,330.00. He recommends approval for the contract for survey and design services for Woodland Place from Racine Avenue to approximately 350 feet west by Ruekert & Mielke for a cost not to exceed 10,000.00. Ald Schaumberg moved to approve the recommendation. Seconded by Ald. Snead. Motion carried 2-0.
