Public Works Committee - MINUTES - 3/23/1989PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MARCH 23, 1989
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 P.M. by Chairman Dumke.
Also present were Committee Member Sanders, Mayor Salentine,
supt. Loughney, and Harvey h Jackie Schweitzer. Committee Member
Taube arrived at 7:15 P.M.
The Committee discussed Urban/Rural Drainage projects. Mr. &
Mrs. Schweitzer appeared before the Committee to follow up on their request of January 26, 1989, to look at the drainage
situation in the southeast part of the City from Union Church Drive north to Big Muskego Lake. They are requesting any City
assistance possible on the cleaning of this drainage ditch which also includes portions of two neighboring farms. The worst area
is on the farm of an absentee farmer, Mr. Geboy, which has to be the first area cleaned. The Schweitzer's have obtained an estimate from a contactor for $1.00 per foot. The Committee
agreed to walk the ditch to determine the entire scope of the
project. It was determined that there are not sufficient funds to complete the entire project, as proposed, but the Committee
stated that there was a possibility of funds to complete the cleaning of drainage ditch on the Geboy property. Ald. Taube
moved to direct Supt. Loughney to contact Mr. Geboy to determine
if he would be willing to financially participate in cleaning of his ditch and, if not, Mr. Loughney will contact the contractor who has submitted the $1.00 quote, and another contractor, for
quotes to clean this ditch and will report back to the committee with his findings. Seconded by Ald. Sanders, motion carried.
The Committee reviewed bill in the amount of $450.00 submitted by Mr. Thomas Dahlmann for ditch cleaning on Woods Road & Durham as
part of an Urban/Rural Drainage project. Ald. Dumke moved to
approve payment of bill. Seconded by Ald. Taube, motion carried.
The Committee discussed the Schultz Lane road project. Mayor
Salentine advised the Committee that this project has exceeded
the original estimate of $44,000 due to securing easements. The Committee determined that negotiations for the necessary
easements should continue and increased costs absorbed in order to complete the project. Supt. Loughney will check out concern
on septic tank.
supt. Loughney advised the Committee that work has not been
started on the Tess Corners drainage project which is being partially funded by a Root River Watershed grant. To date, the
trees to be removed have not been marked.
