PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JUNE 1, 1989
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Dumke.
Also present were Committee Members Simmons and Taube, Mayor
Salentine and those per the attached list.
The Committee discussed Urban/Rural Drainage Project. The Public
Works Superintendent provided the following two quotes for the
ditch on Union Church Road:
7000 sq. ft. Wolf Construction $3.97 per sq. ft.
Gunderson $1.50 per sq. ft.
The Public Works Superintendent informed the Committee that Mr.
Geboy was not interested in participating in the project. The
Committee determined that property owner participation was
necessary and could possibly be provided by upstream benefited property owner. The project will be placed on hold until the
bids are received for the Tess Corners Gaulke Drive & Woods Road
North Drainage Projects, to guarantee that there will be sufficient funds.
The Committee was advised that the City Engineers are
experiencing problems in accomplishing the field work necessary to complete the plans for the drainage ditch on the Klauser
property on Schultz Lane.
The property owners affected in the Tess Corners Gaulke Drive and
Woods Road North drainage project have been sent the required information to acquire easements for the project. It was noted
that the City received notification from the Office of Land
Conservation that this will be the final construction season to
complete the project. City Engineer Todd Weik is completing the
plans to go out for bids.
The Committee reviewed road and storm drainage plans for the Dale Dawson property on Tans Drive and Racine Avenue. The Committee was receptive to the plans, as submitted, but informed the
engineer that since the Preliminary Plat has not been approved,
there is a potential for changes.
Ms. Sharon Squire, W207 S8230 Hillendale, appeared before the
Committee to discuss a drainage problem. Ms. Squire is
requesting the City upgrade the ditch area to allow for
maintenance. The Committee will review the problem and advise the property owner at W207 58250 Hillendale Drive that the eight inch pipe illegally installed is not adequate to handle the drainage from this area.

Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Pellmann and Bob Klenz appeared before the
Committee to discuss storm drainage on the east and west side of
Bay Lane. Ald. Simmons moved to install a drainage pipe from Bay
Lane ditch to west of Pellmann's garage, subject to the Pellmann's granting the City a 20 ft. easement. The Public Works
Department will install the storm pipe; the cost of labor to
install the pipe and the cost of purchasing the pipe will be
shared equally. It was also agreed by both parties that no restoration will be required by the City. Seconded by Ald.
Dumke, motion carried.
Mr. & Mrs. Wahlen appeared before the Committee to discuss a
drainage problem on their property addressed W141 S7587 Freedom
Avenue. The Superintendent of Public Works, the Director of
Planning & Development and the Alderman of the District will make
a recommendation to the Committee to resolve the problem.
Supt. Loughney advised the Committee that Mr. Harenda, Lentini
Drive, is again requesting the City to rectify drainage problem
on his property. Ald. Taube requested that the Superintendent of Public Works obtain a cost for electricity for the one-third
horsepower motor that the plans supplied by the Superintendent of
Public Works require.
The Committee reviewed the Superintendent of Public Works
report. Mr. Adrian Schmidt is requesting that the ditch
requirement for a 4 to 1 slope for his development on Adrian Drive be waived because it would require the cutting of large oak
trees. The ditch is sodded and the Developer is willing to allow
the City to review the area in one year and if the condition
remains stable, the $1,000, as required by the Letter of Credit,
will be released. The affected property owner, Mr. Carl Flom (Tax Key 2179.001-S70 W20251 Adrian Drive) has agreed to record a
deed restriction with his property which guarantees that a future
request for ditch improvement will not be submitted to the City.
The meeting adjourned at lo:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Ald. William T. Simmons
Secretary
