Public Works Committee - MINUTES - 4/28/1988PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD APRIL 28, 1988 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Dumke. Also present were Committee Member Sanders, Ald. Hilt, and Public Works Superintendent Loughney. Committee Member Taube was absent. The Committee reviewed Urban Drainage Projects. Chairman Dumke advised the Committee a meeting is required between Mr. Tom Dahlman and Harold Diekfuss to discuss the possibilities of cleaning up the drainage ditch which is part of both properties. Superintendent Loughney updated the Committee on a meeting held with Mayor Salentine, Ald. Dumke and affected property owners about the proposed upgrading of Schultz Lane. Mr. Howard Schultz and Mr. Sam Klauser have tentatively agreed to finance the construction of the road. The Committee requested that the City Attorney establish the method of conveying the right-of-way to City ownership. The Committee is receptive to a 22 ft. width paved and overall tentative 60 ft. width. There is some question as to whether it will be required to be bid out. Ald. Hilt & Public Works Superintendent Loughney recommended that a 50 ft. guardrail on Muskego & Hiawatha Drive will be sufficient to remedy the potential hazard on the curved area. The Public Works Department will purchase the materials and install the guardrail. The Public Works Department reviewed correspondence from Police Chief Johnon and Representative David Lepak regarding the Town of Norway's request for adoption of a resolution requesting that the construction of State Truck Highway 36 from the City of Burlington to the Milwaukee County line be reviewed and programmed to be built as soon as possible. The Committee recommended adoption of the sample resolution supplied by the Town of Norway. The City will provide dirt on the 15th of May for flower barrels for Green-Up Muskego Days. This dirt will be placed north of the Historical Society property. The Committee discussed amended expenditure for road resurfacing. It was agreed that Bay Lane would have a 4" lift of asphalt instead of the originally proposed S-112" as both Superintendent Loughney and Engineer Technician Rich Eberhardt felt that 4" would be sufficient. The Committee reviewed the following bids for the Public Works patrol truck: 1 - Public Works Minutes - Page 2 April 28, 1988 Badger Ford $49,294. Lakeside International $49,370. Central White - G.M.C. $50,775. Ald. Sanders moved to recommend acceptance of the low bid received from Badger Ford of $49,294. Seconded by Chairman Dumke, motion carried. The Committee reviewed bids for road materials received from L & W Construction, Payne & Dolan, Lang Engineering, C & K Liquid Asphalt, Wolf Construction and Paving Mix & Construction. Ald. Sanders moved to recommend acceptance of the low bid received from Payne & Dolan for asphalt and C & K Liquid for seal coating. Item 116, Review request for tree trimming to allow a house to be relocated was removed from the Agenda as the moving of the house has been cancelled due to poor soil qualities on the site. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Harold L. Sanders Acting Secretary HLS/ca
