COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE - MINUTES - 5/13/2008 Approved 5/27/2007 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE – CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD TUESDAY, MAY 13th, 2008 Mayor Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. and led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Mayor Johnson, Ald. Pavelko, Ald. Werner, Ald. Schaefer, Ald. Fiedler, Ald. Snead, Ald. Schneider, Ald. Borgman, and Clerk/Treasurer Janice Moyer. STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE Clerk/Treasurer Moyer noted that the meeting had been noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Mayor Johnson advised that there were no issues with the agenda. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ald. Fiedler moved, Ald. Borgman seconded a motion, to approve the minutes of the April 22nd, 2008 meeting as clarified. Upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Item 1. Community Development Department Concept. Mayor Johnson asked to defer this item until the next meeting, Mr. Jeff Muenkel, Planning Director is still working on the information needed for this item. Item 2. Review and update mediation progress with the Muskego Volunteer Fire Company. Ald. Borgman is concerned about Tess Corners not wanting to participate in mediation. Muskego has not committed to mediation. The Mayor wants the City’s attorney to work with this issue and he will be at the next meeting. The next step is a letter to Tess Corners regarding what the City expects for fire/rescue for the entire City and requiring an acceptance of the letter. Ald. Fiedler would like a set date for mediation or to move forward. The Mayor will talk with Attorney Molter and further discussion for the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS Item 1. Discussion concerning the status of the City Administrators’ position. Mayor Johnson has concerns with the budget being cut. Non-committal on what to do at this time and wants to wait to see if the current tasks can be performed by the existing staff within the City. Ald. Werner feels there is a need for research and coordination of efforts within the functions of the City. Some tasks have been performed very well and there is concern regarding that the City Engineers’ position should be filled. Ald. Pavelko feels that they should decide if the City Administrator’s position should be eliminated. Ald. Borgman feels the City Administrator is performing some critical tasks, performing “business functions” and that the City is not progressing. th Some discussion regarding the tour on the lake scheduled for Friday June 6 by the Little Muskego Lake.
