MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JANUARY 23, 1997

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 P.M. by Mayor De
Clerk-Treasurer Marenda. Ald. Rasmussen was absent.
Salentine, Sanders, Suhr and D'Acquisto (arrv. 8:30 P.M.), and
Clerk-Treas. Marenda reported the meeting was noticed in
accordance with the Open Meeting law.
Ald. Suhr moved to convene into Closed Session pursuant to
19.85(l)(c)Wis.Stats. Considering employment, promotion,
compensation or performance evaluation data of any public
employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or
exercised responsibility, more specifically the Compensation
and Classification Study Preliminary Final Report. Ald.
Patterson seconded, motion carried by roll call vote of 5-0.
Ald. Suhr moved to convene into Closed Session pursuant to
19.85(l)(e) Deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of
public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting
other specified public business, whenever competitive or
bargaining reasons require a closed session, more specifically
acquisition of Parkland Mall. Ald. Patterson seconded, motion
carried by roll call vote of 5-0.
Ald. Sanders moved, Ald. Salentine seconded, to reconvene in
Open Session. Motion carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
A draft of the position description for the recording secretary
position was reiiewed. Ald. Patterson expressed opposition to-
meetings and felt the aldermen or department head should take
the creation of the position for taking minutes at committee
the minutes. The other aldermen felt they should not be
burdened with taking minutes due to their inability to fully
participate in the meeting. Mayor noted a question was raised
by the union since the regular work hours of this position are
outside the standard office hours in the contract.
Clerk-Treas. Marenda was requested to make a few minor changes
to the position description, confer with the Mayor and Atty.
