BMLCommM19830322BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION AND REHABILITATION DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MARCH 22, 1983. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Salentine at 7:32 P.M. Also present were Commissioners Klenz, Penovich, Colburn, Treba and Nilsson, City Clerk Stewart and City Attorney Molter. Commissioners Dumke and Tomczyk were absent. The meeting was called at the request of the Deputy Commissioners who were concerned over the fact that the Franklin Landfill site was being proposed to be used temporarily as a dump site for hazardous solid waste. Deputy Commissioner Brent Martins advised he had recently attended a meeting in the City of Franklin regarding this matter and found it alarming to him to find out unnatural water, was being pumped in a westerly direction into the City of Muskego when the natural flow of the water would be going in an easterly direction. Deputy Commis- sioner Harris indicated that many people are discussing the possibility of stopping the dumping of toxic waste into the Franklin Landfill, however, there is little that can be done about the situation. Commissioner Klenz advised that he felt the entire matter should be a city problem and not a lake problem and he would like to have the city's engineers review the the matter and report back their findings to the commissioners as soon as possible because of a 10-day limit to file a protest. Discussion took place by residents of the area during which they expressed concern regarding the possibility of wells in the area becoming contaminated. Following further discussion by those present as to whether or not the city attorney and city engineers become involved, Commissioner Klenz moved to refer the matter to the Common Council and to have the Mayor /Chairman of the Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay District, the City Attorney and the City Engineers review the matter and to have them report back to the Mayor and Commissioners as soon as possible. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Nilsson and carried. In answer to Mr. Duane Elertson's concerns regarding the city becoming involved in this matter and whether or not the pending law suit with the DNR c o u,l d negatively affect the city's involvement in this issue, Mrs. Larry Erickson stated she felt that water affects everyone in the city and the law suit should not be considered. There being no further comments, Commissioner Colburn moved to adjourn. Seconded by Commissioner Treba. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Charlotte L. Stewart, City Clerk je
