OLD BUSINESS
Deputy Commissioners' Update -
Current Condition of Lake/Bay, Water Levels, Plant Growth, Fish and Wildlife
Mr. Burmeister reported the following:
• The lake experienced a great winter. There was a lot of ice and activity.
Approximately a dozen jamborees were held.
• The DNR is requesting a new size limit for Northern. The current restriction is two
fish at 26". The new regulation would allow one fish at a 40" minimum. The
Deputy Commissioners are in agreement with the proposal. The larger size
Northern will help control the carp population. There will be a DNR hearing
regarding the issue on April 12. The new regulation would typically not go into
effect until next year. However, the DNR can make it effective immediately.
• Problems this past winter include: too many cars on the lake, abundance of trash
and several "party" shacks.
• Water level has been high this winter, which has helped the oxygen level. The
DNR has requested that the level be monitored this summer.
• The current condition of the lake is good. The water is clean and wildlife are
present.
• Mr. Zagar just finished the installation of the bog barriers at the outlet channel and
the Durham launch. A commercial pier installer was hired.
Mayor Johnson asked Mr. Burmeister if the Police Department was contacted regarding
some of the issues that he stated. Mr. Burmeister responded yes; he stated he was
willing to meet with someone to discuss further. The Mayor stated he would discuss
with the Police Chief. Commissioner Werner noted that Little Muskego Lake would be
using trash bags with rules on them. This is a good source of education. Deputy
Commissioner Kies noted that the DNR is considering stocking Northern because the
male to female population ratio is 3 to 1.
