OLD BUSINESS
Deputy Commissioners Update — Deputy Commissioner Kies gave the report. The
thick ice conditions have caused a winter fish kill on the lake. There are areas
where adequate oxygen levels are present to sustain a fish population in the lake.
The oxygen levels are being monitored.
The application for a DNR permit for placing barriers and buoys in the lake was
approved. The permit will allow for the placement of a product called "Tuff Boom". It
will divert floating bogs from certain areas on the lake. The DNR has given the Lake
District some of the product, at a cost savings for the project of $5,000. The project
is scheduled for the spring of 2009.
June 12, 2009, there will be a natural resources field trip on the lake. The Mayor
and Commissioners were invited to attend. They have also applied to be designated
as "an important bird area." The designation as an "important bird area" gives the
lake the credentials for birder associations to visit the lake and possible help from
the federal and state governments with restoration projects.
2. Status of Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area — Land Acquisition by DNR. There was no
new information, no report was given.
