BMLM20070626BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Approved 10/23/2007 MINUTES OF QUARTERLY MEETING HELD TUESDAY, JUNE 26, 2007 The meeting was called to order at 7:25 PM by Mayor Johnson. Also present were Commissioners Fiedler, Schaefer, Melcher, Werner, Borgman, Pavelko and Snead, City Administrator Sheiffer, Clerk -Treasurer Moyer, Tom Zagar and Deputy Commissioners Kies and Burmeister. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Clerk -Treasurer stated the meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Borgman moved for approval of the March 27, 2007 minutes of the quarterly meeting. Commissioner Melcher seconded; motion carried. There were no vouchers that required approval. OLD BUSINESS Deputy Commissioners' Update (Current Condition of Lake/Bay: Water Levels, Plant Growth, Fish and Wildlife) Mr. Zagar reported that the biggest news is the hatching of an eagle on the western shore of the lake. Adult eagles have also been spotted. The adult ospreys are around; however, they failed to successfully nest this year. It is unclear if the eagles had an effect on that. Other wildlife have been seen and the fishing is good. Regarding aquatic plants, Mr. Zagar stated that milfoil on Bass Bay has not been a problem. Mr. Zagar was out with Marine Biochemists yesterday and a small area of the lake (approximately 5 acres) was treated. Since the milfoil is not a nuisance, treatment would not be cost effective at this time. It may be done later in the summer if needed. Status of Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area - Land Acquisition by DNR Mr. Zagar stated that the DNR is acquiring a portion of the Leonards property on the eastern shore with the City's cooperation for the Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area. The City is contributing 25% toward the purchase; funding for the acquisition is derived from landfill money. Mayor Johnson reported that the Governor would be in town tomorrow at 10:00 to present the check to the Leonards for the acquisition. COMMUNICATIONS AND ANY OTHER BUSINESS AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW Commissioner Werner asked if it were possible to have a tour of the Big Muskego Lake. Deputy Commissioner Burmeister and Tom Zagar both stated they could be available to take any of the Commissioners out on the lake.
