BMLM20070327BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Approved: 06/26/2007 MINUTES OF QUARTERLY MEETING HELD TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2007 The meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM by Mayor Johnson. Also present were Commissioners Borgman, Buckmaster, Madden, Melcher, Schaefer, and Snead, City Administrator Sheiffer, Clerk -Treasurer Moyer, Tom Zagar and Deputy Commissioners Pilak, Kies and Burmeister. Commissioner Salentine was excused. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Clerk -Treasurer stated the meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Buckmaster moved for approval of the January 23, 2007 minutes of the quarterly meeting. Commissioner Melcher seconded; motion carried. VOUCHERS Commissioner Madden moved to approve voucher in the amount of $1,489.50 payable to the Hach Company. Commissioner Schaefer seconded; motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Deputy Commissioners' Update (Current Condition of Lake/Bay: Water Levels, Plant Growth, Fish and Wildlife) Deputy Commissioner Leonard Pilak reported that the water levels are extremely high. This is a result of nature and nothing could have been done to prevent the situation. This is something that will have to be dealt with until summer. Mr. Pilak stated a restoration project is being done in Pardeeville, Wisconsin. He was requested to provide input on the various aspects of doing that type of project. The success of the Big Muskego Lake restoration project is well known throughout the State. Status of Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area - Land Acquisition by DNR Mr. Pilak reported that there are several acquisitions still pending. NEW BUSINESS Authorization for Chairman to sign DNR Permit Application Mr. Zagar stated every year treatment is done for the eradication of eurasion milfoil. This year about 40 acres will be treated; a permit from the DNR is required. There is $15,000 in the budget for the 2007 treatment. Commissioner Borgman moved to authorize execution of the DNR permit application by Mayor Johnson. Commissioner Buckmaster seconded; motion carried. COMMUNICATIONS AND ANY OTHER BUSINESS AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW Mr. Zagar gave a brief report about the bald eagle that he spotted on one of the osprey platforms on the west side of the lake. It is anticipated that there will be both osprey and bald eagles nesting this year. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Buckmaster moved to adjourn at 7:28 PM. Commissioner Snead seconded; motion carried.
