CCR1995123COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO RESOLUTION 8123-95 RESOLUTION INDICATING SUPPORT OF LRB 3336/3 RELATING TO SCHEDULING OF REFERENDA BY LOCAL GOVERNMENTS 0 i i e WHEREAS, legislation is being introduced by Rep. Rick Skindrud to require that a referendum by a local government may only be held concurrently with the spring election (held each year) or the September primary or general election (held in even-numbered years); and no referendum submitted by the same authorization for the borrowing of money may be held more than local government relating to the same subject matter or to once in any 12 month period, and WHEREAS, under current law, referenda are authorized or required to be held by local governments under various laws for various purposes. In some cases, these referenda are authorized or required to be held at special elections when no offices appear on the ballot. In most cases, there is no same subject matter may be submitted, and limitation upon the frequency that questions relating to the WHEREAS, the bill also provides that, unless a more restrictive limitation applies currently, no referendum submitted by the same local government, relating to the same subject matter or relating to authorization for the borrowing of money may be held more than once in any 12-month period. The requirement applies to all referenda, including referenda concerning direct legislation (initiative in cities and villages), and WHEREAS, this would eliminate duplicate special elections in the same 12-month period while also representing a cost savings for the taxpayers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council Of the City of Muskego does hereby indicate its support of LRB governments, and urges its legislators to vote "yes" on this 3336/3 relating to scheduling of referenda by local bill.
