CCR1990141COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEG0 RESOLUTION #141-90 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 483 WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Muskego is concerned about the growing number of requests made by defense attorneys Open Records Law, and for the production of law enforcement personnel files under the WHEREAS, many of the requests are not relevant to or exculpatory in regard to any specific case, and WHEREAS, the harm to an officer's reputation and safety caused by the release of personnel files not relevant or exculpatory in regard to any specific case is not in the public interest, and WHEREAS, the legislature has recognized its sensitivity to personnel-related matters by enacting such laws as Sections 103.13, 230.13 and 19.85(1)(b), (c) and (f) of the Wisconsin Statutes, and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 483 would create a presumption of non- disclosure for the personnel files of law enforcement officers unless a failure to disclose the file's contents would likely result in significant harm to the public interest. NOW, THEKEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Muskego does hereby support the passage of Senate Bill 483 and urges the legislature to take prompt action to enact this bill into law. b DATED THIS 22nd DAY OF May , 1990.
