Reference Update (from Elke Saylor - Head of Reference, Samantha Quail - Adult Services Librarian, Jolyn Lobe and Laura Boeck, Reference Assistants): In November we are offering a variety of virtual and Take & Make programs geared towards adults: • “Wisconsin in the Civil War”, a presentation by the curator of the Civil War Museum in Kenosha • “Getting to Know Medicare,” offered by The Retirement Classroom • “Hell’s Half Acre: The True Story of the Lost Battalion,” a presentation by author Robert Laplander • November’s Take & Make is a floral craft. In cooperation with the ADRC, we are also offering a curbside event in recognition of National Caregiver Month. Caregivers caring for a senior over the age of 60 or a grandparent over the age of 55 raising a grandchild are eligible to receive a gift bag with goodies. Given the earlier sunset and impending winter weather, we have adjusted curbside hours to Monday-Saturday from 10am to 12:30pm. 2. Children’s Update (from Abby Bussen, Children’s Librarian): The Youth Services Department has been diligently working on creating both live and asynchronous virtual content for our patrons. The introduction of Take & Make activities to go along with our kids’ programming has been a huge success! Looking forward, we’re excited to host Colossal Fossils in a 4 week collaboration with 3 other Bridges libraries. We continue to work our way through the chapter books in our genrefication project. 3. Young Adult Update (from Amanda Hyland, Young Adult and Marketing Librarian): This October the Young Adult Librarian brought back the annual staff pumpkin decorating contest. Staff displayed the pumpkins for the public to vote on. There were 101 votes. October’s take and make for teens and adults were yarn ball pumpkins, November’s are fall flower cups. This November there is Fall into Giving Food Drive to help collect food for the Muskego Food Pantry. The Young Adult has also been busy categorizing the kids chapter books into specific genres. 4. Circulation Update (from Jane Matusinec, Circulation Supervisor): Jane and Brittany will be interviewing shelvers this week to fill our open position. The last day to Page 1 of 5 November 2020 Director's Report Packet Page 13 submit applications for the part-time circulation aide was Tuesday, Nov. 10. We have been going through the applications as they come in. We hope to interview applicants soon. 5. Other Updates: a. Dates of Note: Next Library Board Meeting is on December 15th. Can you attend? b. Friends of the Library: I am working with the Friends of the Library to do a community book mark art contest. More details to follow. c. Training and Evaluations: Staff had a virtual in-service day on November 3rd. End of year evaluations will take place in November/December. Brittany took a training on library facilities management and will be taking an supervisor and the law class series through the City in January. d. Mobile App: Brittany is on the Bridges System Technology Committee. We have finished design input for the mobile app and it is now in development and beta testing phases. e. Library H3lp: The library will begin a test of an instant messaging chat and text feature on our website soon. It will allow patrons to chat through our website or text with us in real time to ask questions. This gives two more avenues of contact for them. 6.
