NEW BUSINESS
Discussion Regarding the Sign Ordinance - Scoreboards (Ald. Kubacki)
Planner Trzebiatowski stated the School District would like to replace the existing scoreboard
at the Muskego High School football stadium. The new scoreboard would be digital. The
City's current code does not specifically address scoreboards. This is something that should
be reviewed in the future. To address this situation for now, the scoreboard alone could be
treated partially as an accessory structure and partially as a sign with Plan Commission
approval. The School District would like to have advertising or sponsorships on the rear side
of the sign (facing Woods Road). This would provide a means to fund the project. However,
the City's code prohibits advertising a business that does not operate on that property. Any
advertising facing within the stadium would not need to be regulated. Only signage facing the
road from a public standpoint would need to be addressed.
Planner Trzebiatowski proposes that an ordinance be drafted and made a part of the Sign
Code to address scoreboards. Research could include what other communities have in place.
Any proposed lighting would require Plan Commission review. Alderman Kubacki expressed
concern for the back side of the sign that faces residential properties. There was a unanimous
consensus to have Mr. Trzebiatowski research this issue and bring an ordinance forward.
Mayor Chiaverotti noted it will take time before a new ordinance could be adopted.
ADJOURNMENT
Alderman Borgman moved to adjourn at 6:57 p.m. Alderman Madden seconded; motion
carried.
Minutes taken and transcribed by Jill Blenski, Deputy Clerk.
