CITY OF MUSKEGO BIG MUSKEGO LAKE DISTRICT DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS MINUTES Thursday July 20, 2017 Muskego City Hall CALL TO ORDER Tom Kies called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM. ROLL CALL Present: Tom Kies, Rich Multhauf, Karl Hoeppner and Tom Zagar (staff). Greg Burmeister (former deputy commissioner) also present. Excused: Len Pilak and Larry Schweitzer. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE Meeting was noticed in accordance with the open meeting laws. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – August 3, 2016 Tom Kies made a motion to approve the minutes of August 3, 2016. Karl Hoeppner seconded. Motion carried unanimously. VOUCHER APPROVAL None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Discovery and future management of the invasive algae starry stonewort in Big Muskego Lake and Bass Bay Tom Kies noted there is more starry stonewort (SSW ) in channel to Bass Bay. Greg Burmeister said he found rhizoids and bulbils on the anchor in many parts of the lake. Tom Zagar noted that a contractor treated Boxhorn launch for SSW control. Tom Kies added that Waukesha county has provided “Clean Boats, Clean Waters” inspectors part-time at the Boxhorn launch. 1. Current status of lake (water levels, ice, fish, and wildlife) Water levels are high this year and bogs are a problem. The Department of Public Works, Tom Zagar, and Greg Burmeister have helped clear bogs particularly at Boxhorn launch. There is currently a large bog in front of Deputy Commissioner Schweitzer’s property. 2. Future Project ideas There was discussion of contracting for bog removal. NEW BUSINESS 1. Discuss Little Muskego Lake plans for 7-foot drawdown and potential water level and water conveyance concerns for Big Muskego Lake. Tom Zagar explained that Little Muskego lake is planning a 7-foot drawdown. The primary reason is for SSW control. City engineer Scott Kroeger is awaiting permit and approval from the DNR to see conditions of permit before making recommendations to City Common Council.
